Hi. I have read many of the posts, but can't seem to find anything to help. Sorry if I have missed something previously written.
I have been using United Devices for a number of years and have had no problems at all. But recently I changed over to Boinc. I am a little confused with it. I don't know if I am using it to it's full potential. I do not use my computer much, just for emails, check websites, etc, but I always have Boinc running. When in the Advanced View, under the "Tasks" heading, as my "CPU time" increases so does the "To Completion" time. Also, the report deadline is either past already or almost at the date. For example, the task that started today has a deadline of 21/06/08 01:43:49. Is there anything I could do to help this? As I am worried my contribution isn't helping. Any help would be most appreciated. Thank you ![]() |

I wasn't sure what messages you would need, so I just copied them all.

Okay.
----------------------------------------The task is overdue, so you might as well abort it. You can do some tuning to get the best performance from your computer. Go here and select "Maximum output" (and save it). You will also have to clear your local override in BOINC Manager (Advanced -> Preferences). Keep an eye on the progress. If it still isn't making progress, we will be happy to help further. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jun 22, 2008 1:11:34 PM] |

Thank you. This seems to have helped. Now, when the CPU time goes up, the To completion time actually goes down! lol! Thank you again.

Marevana, I notice that your machine is processing an HPF2 project, which is the most demanding project nowadays in WCG. For participants who have problems with the time it takes to complete a task in their machine either because it is not very fast or because it is not switched on all day long (which is perfectly normal) I recommend to prefer the "Rice" project (NRW) for reasons given in this message , or at least to avoid HPF2 and FAAH which are less suitable for machines working in shorter sessions.
----------------------------------------Laptops which often have problems when leaving hibernation are other good candidates for this NRW project because of the frequent checkpointing. Cheers. Jean. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by JmBoullier at Jun 23, 2008 1:09:52 AM] |
