Re: How to migrate to BOINC

When My Grid is not available, neither is the download page.

Wait until the server becomes available.

Re: How to migrate to BOINC

ni hao ma Wei BJ Sun,

It's not clear why you always get that 'unavailable **' message, but here is the direct download link:

https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/reg/ms/viewDownloadAgain.do

It will require you to sign in if you are not.

I think it senses what operating system you use, but the one above is when the Windows download showed on my display.

good luck.

Actually, this should not happen ever. I know most people probably won't see this post, but if you can't get to the download page during the stats update, please use the Contact Us page to send an email to support, and include the exact date and time (and time zone) and any error messages the website displayed. Members should always be able to download (or at least have the option to download) the World Community Grid software.

(edited for spelling)

Re: How to migrate to BOINC

I got the same error message "The application is unavailable at this time, please try again later." too. Even though I tried the direct link to download page, the message is still the same. Would you pls advise how to do next?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Go to http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php and download BOINC from there.

Re: How to migrate to BOINC

Hello Hayley Hsu,

For IBMers this problem is usually that your firewall is not set to allow BOINC to communicate with the Grid Servers or your network requires a proxy. To ensure that your firewall is set up to allow the BOINC software to connect to the World Community Grid servers, please take the following action:

* double click on your Symantec firewall icon in your system tray
* when the firewall information panel pops up, click on 'client firewall'
* click on 'configure'
* click on the 'programs' tab
* ensure that 'boinc client' reflects 'permit all'

If your firewall was not set to allow communications, and you have changed the settings, double click on your World Community Grid icon in your system tray (bottom right hand corner of your computer screen, by the date and time). Then:

* select 'Advanced View' (if not already on Advanced View)
* select your 'projects' tab
* click on 'World Community Grid' which will allow you to click on 'update' from the left hand menu.

Once you have done this, wait a few minutes and select your 'messages' tab and see if the software is communicating with the grid servers. If you still are not communicating, then your network may require a proxy. Here are the instructions for setting your proxy:

http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=proxy

Let us know if that works. Thanks!

Tedi

Re: How to migrate to BOINC

Just before my first reply, I tried to go to the Download page and got the server unavailable message. Then I selected My Grid and got the same message. I figured that somebody was running something on the server, since it was not a scheduled time for unavailability.

Re: How to migrate to BOINC

Okay. I will have to add a caveat to my previous post... It is possible (unfortunately) that if a member is not logged in, and goes to the download page during the stats update, the login will time out and give the message that was mentioned in the posts above.

I will add some logging to the web site to try to determine how often this is happening. Our goal is to make the download page available to all members at all times, so if this is occurring frequently, we will look into ways to fix it.
