Dave, Thanks for the link. It helped explain a few things to this "electronically challenged" individual. Dr. Mike Glad to have been of a bit of help for you. Myself, well, a bit medically challanged. Due to MRSA, I lost my right leg below the knee (hence all the "scooter" talk). Didn't know I had the infection because of CMT (a genetic neuropathy). And, because of my lifestyle, I have a lot of heart and lung problems. Yeah, knew better, but ignored all the warnings and still do, I guess. Good to have enjoyed life and still do, anyway. If you have any questions on computers, networking, or anything else, ask in here. There is a lot of knowledge among the members of MOT, and if we don't know, some of us have a lot of time to do research. Dave how are you doing now--I hear MRSA is very hard to recover from--If you didnt live so far away i have new Jazzy Select that my wife only used a couple times i would be happy to give you--Gerald |

Welcome back stares. :) Nice to meet you.
---- AIDS Walk 2008 at SF was a success. 25k people. 6.2 miles. And the result: ![]() Now I'm sore. Been a while since I've walked that much.---- Centrino 2 was launched last week. I need help choosing a new laptop for university. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220366 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220343 Is it worth the $150 for 0.3 GHz? I'm thinking no.. Then there the 14 inch. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220337 The only turn down is that it doesn't look as great as the 15" and the air vent is on the right hand side.. My mouse is on the right side. I won't like the heat. Probably going to get the M50Vm-A1 when it gets back in stock. Not sure if I'm going to crunch on it yet.. But I'm giving this PC to my sister when I leave. Getting a new harddrive, and it's all hers. So I'll be down to a Q6600. |

My most recent problems had nothing to do with the MRSA. That's all done with now. The recent problems have more to do with my heart and the edema in my leg. That's pretty well on the mend as well. Thanks also for thinking of me and the scooter. My new one (thankfully) is being funded by the VA. I am also sure your wife was able to use a much lighter duty one than I need since I'm about 340 pounds. I hope you are pretty much over your mono now. That had to have taken the wind out of your sails. |

Having owned a number of laptops, this is one of my few areas of expertise. Blizzie (it's strange how we never use your real name), my philosophy with laptops is that they are expendable. I expect to get about 2-3 years of use out of them. I've had alienware laptops (my roommate has one now), 2 Dells, an IBM, a macbook, and a loner Panasonic. All I can tell you is that they are all somewhat unreliable and all will underperform. I would recommend buying a cheap $500-$800 very basic laptop and plan on replacing it in a few years. You're not going to need to play HL:2 on your laptop anyway (that's what desktops are for).

It's going to get banged up after continuous use and late nights. Not like at home where I can keep it safe. Thinking about lenovo.. It's light and have great service. You can afford to buy two $700-800 machines (meaning you can replace the original one whenever you want) for the price of one "good" laptop. Besides, isn't your desktop your real power machine? Why would you need to play games on your laptop? |

I still can't stay below $1000 with a P8400 CPU, 4 GB RAM for Vista, and at least a 160 GB hard drive. And who buys an Alienware laptop.. Those run for $2000-2500 [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at Jul 22, 2008 2:16:01 AM] |
