97? Break out the suntan lotion. What kind of Humidity?

All quiet on the Texas front here. Traveling on Sunday to Virginia for a job interview. Yikes..

biggrin

Looks like 15% humidity today but it has been down as low as 9% a few days ago. Good luck on the interview.

Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 27 smilesmile

I thought this might be of interest. Orakk put this together for GP who was trying to decide whether or not to repair or trash a dying P4 ... Yikes!!

****

Based on roughly equal clock speed costing is CPUs only and at idle only, estimated at $00.20 per KWH

P4 2.66ghz 1gb DDR400 x 4
CPU 90watt x 4 = .720Kh per hour @ $00.20Kwh = $00.07 per hour = $43.38 per month

P4 3.2ghz Xeon Dual 2Gb DDR400 x 2
CPU - 150watt x 4 = .600Kh per hour @ $00.20Kwh = $00.12 per hour = $80.64 per month

Phenom quad 2.4ghz 4gb DDR2 667 x 1
CPU - 100watt x 1 = .100Kh per hour @ $00.20Kwh = $00.02 per hour = $13.44 per month

***

Once again I would propose that P4's just are not cost justified (speed vs. cost) unless your pockets are bulging with excess money!! wink

And if Orakk can get electrons at 0.20/Kwh ... I'm moving to South OZ. laughing biggrin laughing Mine cost $0.39/Kwh sad

That's why I don't crunch with my 2.8 GHz P4.
The crunching power and electricity cost isn't justified.

Not only is the newest technology faster and cheaper, the chip makers are starting to look at making solar cells. Read just the other day about Nat. Semi already getting in the business and already talking about making solar cells smarter so they do better in even shady conditions.

I agree ... I have 6 P4's of various GHz that have been sleeping since mid-May. I'm going to euthanize them in their sleep. alien 2

I did have an idea though. If WCG would only buy a generator powered by "hot air" we could use the "hot air" (mine included) in the WCG Forum to power it. This would supply enough electricity to power all the crunchin' machines in the world and we could sell the excess back to the grid.

Good idea but not quite perfect. Instead, build a dome over Washington. All the hot air from there will provide an inexhaustable energy supply! biggrin

What kinds of machines does everyone else run?

I looked at a wireless router for my cable modem today. Boy, did I get confused. :( So many brands and types.

1) not sure which one is right
2) wouldn't know how to work it in the first place..

HELP! lol..

I crunch on an overclocked Q6600 that runs at 2.8 ghz per core (4 total) and an AMD 2.4 ghz laptop. And my roommates P4. And my p4. And my girlfriends craptacular 2.4 P4.

My Farm: 6 Q6600 quads, 1 6400 duo, 4 P4 duos, 2 P4 singles (36 cores).
Currently Crunchin’: 4 quads and the 6400 (as it has my weather station on it).

I can’t help on what wireless modem is best ... I’m hardwired. I think Keith uses a wireless modem. Too expensive for me to get a wireless modem that handles that many PC’s. Beside, my office would not look like my office without 12 tons of copper behind the racks. biggrin biggrin

They are easy to set up. An Ethernet cable from your cable modem to the router and a transmitter/receiver plugged into the ethernet port of each machine. Keith will know the details.
