I see this all the time on my Thinkpad laptop - each active task reports this exactly once after the laptop comes out of hibernation. Doesn't seem to impact the result though.

Anyone who suffers this hibernation-resume or battery related checkpoint revert problem [which this dll & zero status error does] should not choose extended 'write to disk' times in their device profile. Setting for instance 600 seconds, means that the science will kick back to the last checkpoint prior to that 600 seconds. For projects that have long times in between like HCC [second half], HPF2, FA@H it could mean even an hour plus loss and more grievous on slower machines.

Sekerob's suggestion is a mitigation - it will minimise the loss if this error happens.
But I would really like you all to try disabling the ThinkVantage power management software. With only ThinkPads affected, this seems like more than mere coincidence. Sorry, I can't give any detailed instructions for how to disable the software. |

My BOINC setup
{Computing allowed} "When computer on batteries" - NOT CHECKED "Write to disk at most every _60_ seconds" "Leave applications in memory while suspended" - CHECKED My Power Options setup - viewed/changable by going to Control Panel -> Power Options -> Power Schemes tab When Plugged in: Turn off monitor: after 15 mins Turn of hard disks: After 1 hour System standby: Never System hibernates: Never When running on batteries: Turn off monitor: after 10 mins Turn of hard disks: After 15 mins System standby: After 30 mins System hibernates: After 2 hours Typically, if I am running on batteries it means I'm sitting in some boring meeting away from my comfy desk, so I'm actively using my laptop (read: reading email, playing "Daisy Chain" or "Step Ladder"... ), so it doesn't reach the point where it wants to turn off the hard drive or go into nap mode (unlike myself ). |

For projects that have long times in between like HCC [second half], HPF2, FA@H it could mean even an hour plus loss and more grievous on slower machines. Sek, I am surprised by this last comment. Projects and/or machines with a checkpointing period greater than 600 seconds are precisely those which should never be affected by this longer disk write inhibition setting: when they are ready to checkpoint the inhibition time should always be already elapsed. Cheers. Jean. |

If that were so, but does the write window stay open for an unlimited time and the count resuming after an actual checkpoint write?
----------------------------------------This is what the UBW says: http://www.boinc-wiki.info/Checkpoint In the case of rice having between 30-90 seconds checkpoint intervals and DDDT similarly short, setting 10 minutes would loose 11-12 minutes tops. In case of the window staying open indefinitely, than the mitigation is not too much of an improvement with reverting to the 60 second default. Then I'd really stay with 10 minutes as that particularly on frequently checkpointing apps helps to reduce disk i/o.

If that were so, but does the write window stay open for an unlimited time and the count resuming after an actual checkpoint write? That was my understanding and I am glad it is confirmed by reading the UBW. Once the WTD interval is elapsed the application can write a checkpoint whenever it happens. Personally, after running with the default 60s since my start in WCG I have finally chosen 180s: that is the time I accept to wait or the work I accept to lose when I want to switch the quad from XP (processing DDDT) to Ubuntu. I have set it the same in Ubuntu just in case I run other projects but it usually crunches HCC and then I have to wait a little longer for the slowest checkpointer (usually between 6 and 10mn). Anyway, this is clearing the checkpointing interval matter but unfortunately that does not give us more clues for the DLL problem... I hope Didactylos' post about Thinkpads is showing progress for members affected by the problem. Cheers. Jean. |

Hello JmBoullier,
Thinkpads come with a lot of extraneous software these days. A few years ago I searched through Google for web pages urging various deletions to eliminate various problems. But I do not know if this DLL initialization error is Thinkpad related or not. Lawrence |

Well, I may be on to something. It appears that BONIC running on a Thinkpad that is running on battery with no network connection is ok. If I then close the lid, I start seeing the DLL init. error. Keep the lid open and no problem. So it seems at this point. And yet I have it set to take no action when I shut the lid.
