Re: New supercomputer by IBM

Interesting...

Roadrunner is the world’s first hybrid supercomputer. In a first-of-a-kind design, the Cell Broadband Engine® -- originally designed for video game platforms such as the Sony Playstation 3® -- will work in conjunction with x86 processors from AMD®.

Applications for Cell-based hybrid supercomputing include: calculating cause and effect in capital markets in real-time, supercomputers in financial services can instantly predict the ripple effect of a stock market change throughout the markets. In medicine, complex 3-D renderings of tissues and bone structures will happen in real-time, as patients are being examined.

They can't stop calling it "1,000 trillion". Why can't they just say "quadrillion" like normal folks in the US? They'll find out what it means when the US national debt gets there.

Europe may be gunking up the works with those milliards, billiards and trilliards... 10^6 between million and billion, not 10^3 as here.

That must be it.

Offtopic!

Well about billions and national debt..

I think that €urope will win this battle, those Teutonic bankers do not do same mistake twice...
It seems to me that FED do same mistake every 25 year...

ECB is totally independent, and it goal is not support economical growth. It target is save stable social conditions.
It has very clear quantitative definition and method to work with this goal..

ECB is true leader of Europe.
Where U.S.A is federation, EU is confederation, but still all those nations got absolutely not any votes on financial issues, they can only handle economic policy with way of democracy...

ECB is giant, it loans more that 100 bn every week to panel bank to make sure monetary market is always working.
But ECB does not seems to grant any longer loans, which has lead raising of longer €uribors (€uribor is marked from day <-> 12m, and it is price for noncollateral money, €urepo is loan price with collateral)...

I'm counting heavily (with my investments) that ECB will raise minimum bit interest from 4% -> 4,25%
I think that this simply happen because those short loans (one week) has get too high coupons, last one was already 4,18%
And it has been raise every week, this is too short money to come loose so far from minimum bit rate, which in practise should be overnight rate...
