Well, Lawrence, you did one heck of a job!! Thanks so much.
----------------------------------------Really, this sort of post should be the first post on the forum for each project. >>RSM |

Lawrence-
----------------------------------------At Mozillazine and Sillydog, the major forums for Gecko (FF, TBird, SM), at Winamp and Shoutcast forums, posts such as this are able to be "pinned", so that they remain at the top of the list. Is that possible for the forums in WCG? >>RSM |

Hello mitrichr,
The forum software is a topic for Website Support but here is the short take. We are using mvnForum RC3. It is an open-source package that we had to hack to work (with bugs) on multiple servers in 2004. We have been talking about upgrading it almost since day one, especially since multiple-server support was added to mvnForum. Many features have been added to mvnForum ( http://www.mvnforum.com/mvnforumweb/index.jsp ) since 2004 (including the 'pinned' posts you mentioned). We have finally scheduled the upgrade for this year, but it has a very low priority compared with our projects and even the BOINC server software, so it will have to fit in between more important changes. Meaning that it is not certain we will get to it this year (though we'll try). One of the main reasons for selecting mvnForum was the quality of support for languages such as Chinese and Japanese. (Trying to think ahead.) I got carried away. The brief answer is - no, but we hope to have 'pinned' posts in the near future. Lawrence |

Hey-
----------------------------------------I often get carried away, it's great, it shows enthusiasm and that one cares about what one is doing. Hey, right now I am flying high. We had this article in the local paper, http://www.mycentraljersey.com/apps/pbcs.dll/...520/HEALTH/805200311/1040 which actually looks better in newsprint than the on-line. Anyway, I am carrying it around with me. I emailed the link to 30 friends and relatives and asked them to give WCG and BOINC a look, and just, you know, pick something. Pick anything. Sop up some WU's. Anyway, I saw my neighbor outside, he had installed 5.10.45 and attached to two BOINC projects. Now, I showed the newsprint article to my boss. He has been very reluctant to let any of the company computers on the projects (he does not know that my immediate colleague is crunching all projects on WCG, and she has a really good machine). So, I said, hey, you are a charitable guy, how about giving us a shot. Now, I am not going to annoy him, I think he may have already installed and attached-to WCG. This is what I do best, proselytize, attack journalists who write up projects without mentioning WCG and BOINC, etc., the human side. So, good, enthusiasm is good. Thanks for that super good informational post. >>RSM |
