I run BOINC Client 5.10.45 on two Linux machines. I have been running WCG on one of these for a while now and yesterday I tried to attach to it with the other. It does not attach, giving error messages like this:
----------------------------------------19-May-2008 09:45:53 [World Community Grid] Sending scheduler request: Requested by user. Requesting 0 seconds of work, reporting 0 completed tasks 19-May-2008 09:45:54 [---] Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site 19-May-2008 09:45:55 [---] Access to reference site succeeded - project servers may be temporarily down. 19-May-2008 09:45:58 [World Community Grid] Scheduler request failed: Problem with the SSL CA cert (path? access rights?) Is this an error at my end (in which case, how do I fixi it)? Or yours? ![]() |

Hi
The servers have been flaky the last few days.....may have something to do with it. |

@Jean-David,
Try the threads in the below search result. See them frequently reported by new members on Linux and hardly if at all anything to do with flakiness. WCG uses secure connections and needs to verify your certificate: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...6&submitbutton=Search |

The problem is explained here: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/wiki/Error/Scheduler%20request%20failed

Your suggested explanations do not seem to apply.
----------------------------------------1a.) "This error most frequently occurs because of incorrect date settings on your computer. To correct the problem, correct your computer clock." My computer clock seems to be correct. I would expect it is correct because it is synched with IP address 66.187.233.4 on the Internet. It also agrees with my wristwatch that keeps very good time. 1b.) "Since BOINC 5.10.42, this error message is also given when the ca-bundle.crt file cannot be found." I am running 5.10.45 and file ca-bundle.crt is present 2.) "This is a known problem with some ported BOINC releases, especially certain Linux x64 ports. The reason for the error is that a file (ca-bundle.crt) was omitted from the release." I am runing CentOS4 on a dual processor (Intel) 32-bit machine. I get this error message: 19-May-2008 11:13:47 [World Community Grid] Scheduler request failed: Problem with the SSL CA cert (path? access rights?) not Scheduler request failed: peer certificate cannot be authenticated with known CA certificates 19-May-2008 09:39:10 [---] Data directory: /boinc $ ls -l /boinc/BOINC -rwxr-x--- 1 boinc boinc 2004948 Mar 5 10:47 boinc -rwxr-x--- 1 boinc boinc 8820236 Oct 2 2007 boincmgr -rw-r----- 1 boinc boinc 238100 Feb 20 15:38 ca-bundle.crt This is the same place as on my other machine where WCG works. 3.) "SSL connect error" I do not get this error. In any case, my version of curl is: $ rpm -qa | grep curl curl-7.12.1-11.el4 curl-devel-7.12.1-11.el4 So it must be something else. ![]() |

Is this related to a discussion on the developers forum?

19-May-2008 09:39:10 [---] Data directory: /boinc $ ls -l /boinc/BOINC -rwxr-x--- 1 boinc boinc 2004948 Mar 5 10:47 boinc -rwxr-x--- 1 boinc boinc 8820236 Oct 2 2007 boincmgr -rw-r----- 1 boinc boinc 238100 Feb 20 15:38 ca-bundle.crt If your Data directory is /boinc, shouldn't the certificate be there instead of /boinc/BOINC? Try copying or linking the certificate to the /boinc directory, as I'm not sure the client will search subdirectories for the file. Edit: To test this, I used a Windows machine. I stopped the daemon, move the cert. out of the data directory completely and could not communicate with WCG. Next, I moved the cert. to the projects subdirectory and still could not communicate. Finally, I moved the cert. to the main data directory and communications worked correctly. [Edit 1 times, last edit by BobCat13 at May 19, 2008 4:00:29 PM] |

OK. I tried that and it now has me attached to the project.
----------------------------------------The BOINC client then downloaded a lot of stuff, but no work units. This is not a problem because that machine is busy with other BOINC work and does not need any more work at the moment. But on my other machine, the ca-bundle.crt is in boinc/BOINC and on this machine it was in boinc/BOINC and the other machine works as is. So something is strange. ![]() |

If your queue is full and you select a new project, you could get some downloads of graphics elements like .gif files to be used later. Maybe that's it.

@BobCat13,
Seen this file link comment for Linux a number of times. Is that similar to a little known feature in Windows where you tell the file manager to show as were it in multiple places? |
