Welcome to the WCG, Mr. Met,
The red HELP in the upper right of the Forum takes you to http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewHelp.do which links to several pages about points. That is just a start. The Start Here forum answers many questions. Just browse through the topics listed. You will probably want to look over the pages under My Grid at the top of the page. The projects we run are discussed in the Research section at the top of the page. Glad to have you with us! Lawrence |

Hi Mr Met.
----------------------------------------Welcome to the WCG community. You will find a lot of great information in this pages: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=19120 https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/projects_showcase/viewResearch.do In order to understand how to get points, follow the official rule in WCG: Points The calculation of Points is the method World Community Grid uses to calculate your contribution to our Internet Distributed Computing projects. First, the "strength" of your participating machine(s) is calculated by measuring the following parameters of your machine against the World Community Grid Comparison Device: • CPU power • Random Access Memory (RAM) • Allocated and available hard disk storage space • Effective downsteam throughput from the World Community Grid Servers to the World Community Grid Agent The strength of the machine is then multiplied by the effective run time used to complete the work unit and successfully return the results to the World Community Grid Servers. Any parameter can overachieve the like parameter on the World Community Grid Comparison Device. However, the maximum value of your machine's overall strength will be capped at twice the value of the World Community Grid Comparison Device strength. Finally, please consider that your points menas that you contribute for the selected projects (you can choose in projects page view in your MY Grid page) and help the scientits efforts in WCG. It is a donation and we are very glade to have you as member helping the sciecne behind WCG prohjects with donation of your CPU's/GPU's iddle time. best regards. giba. ![]()

But WAIT! That's not all. If you join one of our teams, points will also be matched as team points. You can also jump around to other teams if you want. You are not stuck with the first one.
----------------------------------------The team area has postings from team threads of many. It is also possible to go to any team and look for the find a team area on the left to search on keywords. You don't have to join any particular one unless you specifically hit the join button. That's all for here. All team recruiting must be done in the team threads, once for each team.

Hi Mr Met and GIBA!
----------------------------------------The "strength" items listed by GIBA in his post were used only by the old UD agent which is living its last days. Since you are new in WCG you are using the Boinc agent and the relevant information regarding points is there in the website FAQs Fortunately all topics which were insignificant in the UD points calculation formula have been left out of the Boinc one. Cheers. Jean. |

How do I get points and what do I do with them? Two, how do I get project badges? Hi Mr. Met - welcome to the WCG ! With regard to what you can 'do' with points, you cannot trade them with other members or 'cash them in'. Hmm .... it's a pity they cannot be cashed in :( Seeing that WCG is a not for profit organisation I suppose that would be against the rules .... oh well !! Anyhow - welcome again ! Actually, if you join the Easynews team - and Usenet service - you can cash in your points (actually run time) for additional Easynews service.
You can think of it as a rewards program. |
