Finally a journalist who gets it

New York Times, today, May 14, 2008

Steve Lohr

http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/05/14/join-the-hunt-for-super-rice/

Finally, a journalist who has the sense when writing about a project to mention WCG, and BOINC (well, not BOINC, but SETI, almost as good).

Check it out, paste in only through .com and scroll down.

Re: Finally a journalist who gets it

Hey, that's cool.

I have RSS feeds from all of the projects in which I participate, and I check them twice a day. This was not in the feed for WCG.

Actually, it is true that most or all projects have feeds, but sadly, they are little used. BOINC has a feed, and any news item on their web site gets put into the feed, but that's about it.

Anyway, you guys do great work, the forums are so very helpful.

Are you saying that the link to the news article wasn't in our RSS feed or the fact that we launched a new project?

Re: Finally a journalist who gets it

I get an RSS feed from WCG, but not from any given project. I see that Rice has an RSS button, and maybe if I had THAT feed, I would have seen the notice.

The new project I knew about because I walked past my computer and saw an unknown strange and beautiful screen saver.

RSS is great; but it is easy to get burried in it.

Now, as we speak, I just added the feed for Rice. My post above is in in the feed, but not the notice of the NYT article.

This is a common problem in many areas, not just here. So, I am pointing it out hopefully so that later terrific news gets to the feed.

Thanks for your help.

That's why.... it's a problem everywhere except here, but the use of it is sparse:

WCG News Feed, which includes the NRftW item ;)

Dear Sekerob

I read the post - whose link you sent - on RSS and I have a doubt. I'd like to see my statistics in my feed reader. However, my username ("Alex Supertramp") has a space, and I couldn't get the feed for this username. I tried to substitute XYZ (in http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/rss?feed=member&userName=XYZ) by "alexsupertramp" and "alex_supertramp", but I got an error message. Any idea of how to solve it?

BTW, when I'm in my statistics page and I click on the RSS button of my browser (Firefox), I can get the general stats or the general news. Maybe the system (I mean, the WCG's website) could be changed so that when a member is seeing his stats page, the feed button would lead him to his own stats feed. I think it would be much more coerent.

Soltanto una cosa di più, una curiosità: Lei è italiano?

Grazie mille

Re: Finally a journalist who gets it

Alessandro,

The FAQ was amended to explain that each space in a member name needs replacement with %20

The feed suggestion will be passed on, though I'm not sure if it's possible. There are lots of changes on the program to be achieved in the next 7 months.

ciao

PS: I'm not a 'Lei'.... much to formal like in German 'Sie'
