I see MS released XP SP3 out today.. before I upgrade I want to know if BOINC may break after the installation. Anyone have any problems from it?

I just did a fresh install of XP SP3 in my wifes computer followed by a service install of 5.10.45. Running smooth so far but it's only been 24 hours.

Hello choj01,
----------------------------------------Some Hewlett-Packard AMD computers have problems, but no one has reported any BOINC problems. http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=20118#165273 Lawrence Added: 15 May 2008 HP is working on a fix. Don't upgrade to SP3 http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2...lls-amd-desktop-users-sit Added: 11 June 2008 I got tired of waiting for the official fix. I used the unofficial utility mentioned in http://blogs.pcworld.com/staffblog/archives/006978.html then rebooted and then updated to Windows XP SP3. It all seemed to work fine. I installed SP3 on all of my XP systems. I have not seen any problems with BOINC, (or anything else for that matter).

I have running Win XP SP3 RC1 for months now on one Intel Celeron, two AMD Dual Cores, and three Intel Quads without any problems.

Lucky for u Dieter. Never ever had a BSOD on my WXP HMC and after SP3, twice. Found several 3rd party drivers that were updated after SP3 for Audio, Video and Wifi. So it does break things is what I'm convinced off.

XP SP3 on three machines here without any problems other than one.
Since the upgrade to SP3, two of the three machines were renamed according to the devices page on WCG. SYS_38 and SYS_39 are now listed as just "sys" for both, although the names are correct on the actual machines. I've been meaning to get a WCG tech to check into this anomoly, but results still keep flowing despite the duplicate machine name. Maybe if one of them happens to read this, they can shine a little light on the subject. |

Maybe if one of them happens to read this, they can shine a little light on the subject. It works because WCG also records the underlying IP number from which the contacts come AND a device has not only the userfriendly device name but also a device ID which is unique. The only one who has a problem is you for not being able to see which result came from which "sys". Try changing the host name in the system control panel of 1 of these to SYSxx without the "underline" character. On first contact it should change the names for all results from that device. It would at least support that there is a special character issue.
