One definite advantage of a dual system would be running two completely separate distributed computing programs one on each CPU. Like seti on one and WCG on the other.

Just to add my two cents to these threads (Get it? "threads"... aw, never mind)...
I have an old server that I installed this on that has dual PIII 666MHz processors and 2GB of memory... frankly they can use the whole system for what it's worth, but the agent only uses half of the processing and memory. I too would definitely like to see an SMP-aware agent in the very near future! -dziesmer |

Well i know there was a program called UDTweaker for the UD client. I don't know if it works with this client?

Is it possible to double up the installation, or does it use a singular resource (like the registry)? I wouldn't think it would let you install it twice... but if I just copy and rename the X:\Program Files\WorldCommunityGrid directory... anybody tried this yet?

Well i didn't find a key with UD.exe in it. But i can't say for sure that it doesn't use the registry
----------------------------------------Edit: Well check this. I found a little tool that works :) http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=296 [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Nov 17, 2004 8:11:34 PM] |

I tried this and my dual cpu (1.4ghz xeon's) server is maxed out on cpu usage.

Dual PIII 1G running Win2k3 here. Utility installed cleanly and task manager does indeed show two instances running. I assume they are working on different workunits.
I think the devs are about to find out that there are an awful lot of SMP machines out there with spare cycles. Excellent tip. Thank you. |

My Dual III 667 with Windows 2000 took the UDtweaker program with out a hitch, by the way.
I've understood that there are some quality concerns related to running a single workunit across multiple CPUs, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't explore it better. As of 2005, dual core or multi-processor systems are to become the de facto standard, so these folks better get their program in high gear if they want to truly tap unused processing power...
