Communication Deferred Error [RESOLVED]

Hi. I've been running BOINC for months now. Just recently, I am getting the dreaded "Communications Deferred" message when trying to update to a new task. I suspect a firewall/proxy issue, but I see in the log that a file has been downloaded successfully. (I bolded the successful download as well as the error.) Thoughts?

Also of note, both of my work PC's have the same error.

Here is the log of the messages:

Re: Communication Deferred Error

Dreaded? "Communication deferred" a normal message to prevent you from contacting the servers too frequently.

The actual message you highlight is different: "Failure when receiving data from the peer".

We have a help page that should assist with this particular problem: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=proxy

Please ask again if you still have problems.

Re: Communication Deferred Error

Hi.

I was able to update the CC_CONFIG.XLM file with an NTLM. However, I still am getting a communication deferred error. Also, I am getting a pop up button. Here is the log now. (This is a snip of a repeating log:)

Also, here is the button text:

Thoughts?

Re: Communication Deferred Error

"Communication deferred" is not an error.

Please check that you have named cc_config.xml correctly. It is xml, not xlm.

Re: Communication Deferred Error

Hi.

Sorry for stating an error. From my perspective, it is not working correctly...

The file is named correctly:

C:\Program Files\BOINC\cc_config.xml

Re: Communication Deferred Error

Mizenson,

Your log says that you have a 'basic' proxy,

Authenticate: BASIC realm="internet"5/8/2008 11:44:13 AM||[http_debug] [ID#2] Received header from server: Cache-Control: no-cache5/8/2008 11:44:13

therefore the flag should be

<force_auth>basic</force_auth>

and not 'nltm'.

If not, let us know.

Re: Communication Deferred Error

Hi,

I changed the config file to "basic". I went to Advanced/read config, then back to the project tab, and update projects. Same popup error:

Now in the log, I'm getting an interesting log entry:

New log entry
5/9/2008 11:57:19 AM||Unparsed tag in cc_config.xml: <force_auth>

I also still get the following pop up button:
World Community Grid couldn't do Internet communication, and no default connection is selected. Please connect to the Internet, or select a default connection using Advanced/Options/Connections

When closing the button, I go through the cycle of deferred communication...

Here is the current config file:
<cc_config>
<log_flags>
<file_xfer_debug>1</file_xfer_debug>
<http_debug>1</http_debug>
<http_xfer_debug>1</http_xfer_debug>
<proxy_debug>1</proxy_debug>
</log_flags>
<options>
<force_auth>basic</force_auth>
</options>
</cc_config>

Thanks again for the help.

Re: Communication Deferred Error

The format seems healthy and i just tried it on mine and it gives no error, BUT, are you still using client 5.10.45, because below 5.10.41 it will give such an error.

You need to set your browser default to not try to dial if on ADSL.

Re: Communication Deferred Error

Mizenson, your original post shows 5.10.45.

If you have problems in the future, please make sure you provide logs from the actual computer having the problem, and tell us if you do anything significant such as installing a different version of BOINC.

Thank you.
