Does anyone know if RAM speed and timings affect crunching speed? Or is it just CPU dependent? Well, no one's responding and my opinion on this is like that of a burger flipper talking about theoretical physics. Still, I would suspect all else being equal, faster memory will make a difference. It may not be significant though. Not enough memory hurts because you end up paging out memory to disk and disk IO is the tar pit of computer performance. It seems that normally the CPU is the fastest part of a computer so multi-threading and multi-tasking let it deal with the slower parts of its computer home. Some of the projects use a good bit of memory so faster memory says to me that it can exchange that data with the CPU faster which means that there is less chance of the CPU being idle for a few milliseconds and milliseconds add up. I still have to wonder just how significant a difference it ends up being unless you're going from extremely slow memory to high speed memory. Well I'm running 4 GB so paging files is not an issue. Everything gets stored in RAM. The problem is that my motherboard likes running my RAM to a 1:1 ratio with my FSB, so instead of 400 MHz standard DDR6400, it's 377 MHz. And video card is a lot lot lot faster than a CPU. If anyone here runs 3DMark06, they would know. ![]() |

Ah, so your concept of a cabin is really a high-end, permanently pitched tent. ![]() Nothing is ever permanent. ![]() ![]() |

Alright, I just found some new machines to make my slave (in their free time of course). I'm looking forward to seeing if I made it onto the top ten points generated for the day in mot.

Funny ... when I go to My Team it shows us in 3rd place in the China challenge. If you look at the team detail ... we're still in second. More funny WCG numbers?
