It gets worse... It was unstable at 3.0 ghz too. The heat seems to be the issue. Those M****rF*****s at IBUYPOWER must've put the thermal compound on badly. I just torture tested it last night (10 hours) at 2.88 ghz per core and it ran absolutely fine (core temps no hotter than 61C). It will stay at 2.88 until I figure out either my heat problem or the bios settings. Right now literally everything is set to auto except for FSB speed! Those temps are too high.. Even for a Quad. =.= Reseat with Arctic Silver 5. How hard is it to reseat a heatsink fan combo? I'm not super skilled. In any case, while running WCG the temps are stable at 51C. It's only when I use OCCT that they get to 60. Why is that? WCG is set to use 100% CPU even while in use. Even when I run CounterStrike Source with graphics maxxed out and have WCG on at full 100% usage, I never get above 52C. Stress tests loads the CPU to it's limits. WCG doesn't. CS of coruse doesn't. It looks like it will be 99 F on Thursday................ ![]() |

So why do I care how stable my CPU is at "the limit" if none of the apps I run get anywhere near the limit anyway? It sounds like a case of "cross that bridge when we come to it" to me. I think that during the summer, I'm going to split the power between 2.88 and 2.4 ghz speeds to make sure I don't break nothin. After the summer is over, I'm going to get serious about ocing. I'm also going to post some stuff in XtremeSystems forums and maybe on Overclockers.net forums to see if anyone with my same setup (or a really, really similar one) has some settings that will let me run a stable 3 or 3.3 ghz (my goal). I don't need 3.6 and it seems like the danger is much much higher the higher I clock up. Heck, 2.88 is already a 20% improvement over stock speeds!

Yeah, but when I check my results status, I see 5 total invalids (because a power outage hard powered off my PCs) and no errors over the past few months. I don't think WCG is stressing my system enough to produce errors.
