A quick YouTube clip of my son receiving his diploma at Beloit College yesterday is here. Note: their team name is the Bucaneers and he has dressed as a pirate at all games, hence the hat. I believe congratulations are in order. I'm sure you're very proud! Yep -- proud papa here ![]() |

I'm a huge fan of the liberal arts educational model - nothing produces more well-rounded intellectuals! |

Well, after two hours and 26 minutes, OCCT stopped because of overheating. I set the temp to 70C to be conservative because I don't know how hot these things are supposed to run. But I'm okay with the result I got. It's stable enough (for government work). Maybe I'll drop it down from 3.3 to 3.1 or so just for safety's sake.
----------------------------------------EDIT I've scaled it back to FSB 333 making 3ghz per core. This is first and foremost a heat issue, so I'm going to torture test it again tonight and see if it can handle it. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at May 13, 2008 7:50:08 AM] |

You need some new thermal compound mate.. Reseat that heatsink. |

It gets worse...
It was unstable at 3.0 ghz too. The heat seems to be the issue. Those M****rF*****s at IBUYPOWER must've put the thermal compound on badly. I just torture tested it last night (10 hours) at 2.88 ghz per core and it ran absolutely fine (core temps no hotter than 61C). It will stay at 2.88 until I figure out either my heat problem or the bios settings. Right now literally everything is set to auto except for FSB speed! |

Even for a Quad. =.= Reseat with Arctic Silver 5. |

It's only when I use OCCT that they get to 60. Why is that? WCG is set to use 100% CPU even while in use. Even when I run CounterStrike Source with graphics maxxed out and have WCG on at full 100% usage, I never get above 52C. |
