sad Crunching problem FAAH

I received 3 wu using faah 6.03

When reaching 5.6% of crunching falling to 5.00% and so long for nearly an hour. I tried to restart but for the same result. I stopped and upload them back

Im using XP pro and never had a problem with precedent versions of Faah

Re: Crunching problem FAAH

It's been doing this for as long as I can remember. On slower machines it takes longer, on fast machines it takes 5-10 minutes, but those as e.g. that 5.6% are resistance points where the program is trying to find the optimal docking, speak lowest negative energy, before moving on. Once past that point it will race to the next and continue to do that at set percentages. At any rate, if access to the graphics, watch the best energy graph. here sample of BOINC and the UD agent versions side by side:

After the first attempt is complete, the green line is replaced by a red line to identify the last successful attempt. The green line with a new attempt will start from scratch and will try to at least match or improve on the previous attempt (Best Energy search). If that does not succeed it will try a number of times, each time slightly withdrawing with the % going back and re-estimating total run time.

Re: Crunching problem FAAH

Thanks Sekerob

I understand that in fact all seems to be correct for program is optimizing . I will see next time.

The risk is to spend undeterminate time for nothing if the running is not correct.

Note that in the case, when i restart the WU, the program reaches 5.6% in 10 mn only, delay which appears too short to me and let me think it was a real problem on a basis of 20/25% an hour for docking. smile

Re: Crunching problem FAAH

The program has time-outs. Long as it cycles, redraws, approaches, retries, things are fine.... it's when nothing happens for hours and hours and the progress line not moving even a tenth of a % is when I look up and check things like CPU time use, message log (something UD agent does not provide at all). Someone proposed not having this alternating and it just sitting at e.g. your 5.6%.... different people, I'd get tense.

Check the forums, check the Result Status Page Work Unit quorum detail (while we still have that for FA@H). If you don't trust a job, it's better to suspend the job and enquire around.

cheers
