Team Challenge Problems [sort of RESOLVED] use description words

Another similar thread was locked, so I will resume here in addition to the back room.

Here is a concern from Courine. She doesn't seem to be able to invite certain team names to a closed challenge.

Ret,

I want to invite you [i.e. Vulture Central III] to race with team UK, but cant select them, The selection list stops at the first 25 matches on the string "UK". There are many more than 25 matches and the "U" is near last alphabeticly, so cant add them to an invite list.

If you know a way to to add them, let me know. There are other problems like this. Where the team name is short. Like the team USA.

I tried it and saw the same problem:

Only the first 25 search results are displayed

(Why?)

One would have to invite teams on that page anyway to access any team names on a refreshed page of uninvited teams using the same search string. That seems a bit convoluted, and the teams may be in different classifications that what is desired.

Once more flexibility and field leveling or handicapping is added to team challenges, this situation may change.

Is the complete team name "UK"? Any additional words in the team name might solve the inaccessibility problem for the moment.

Re: Team Challenge Problems

Not being a captain/founder can't tell you if the team invites allows filtering on 'description'. Certainly Statistics page Team Search permits to do that. If can do, open second browser tab and do a Team Search from the statistics pages, find the target, copy a bit of their mission statement, flip back to 1st tab and select search on description box and paste the copied text e viola and only the 'UK' team should pop up.

Re: Team Challenge Problems

Yes, it does, as I found out.

I did a search for "for fans", which I knew was in ours:

Team Name: Current Members:
Browncoats 2 Invite This Team

Club Avalanche 1 Invite This Team

Farscape 2 Invite This Team

Greyhound Friends 4 Invite This Team

Paneristi World Wide 2 Invite This Team

Team DiS! 9 Invite This Team

The Sequins 1 Invite This Team

TWIT Army 19 Invite This Team

Vulture Central III 83 Invite This Team

WilliSoft 3 Invite This Team

Re: Team Challenge Problems

You know the drill. If it works insert [RESOLVED] in the OP title.

So,

Go to Statistics

Select Team Search

Select Description

Copy A team representing the UK community into the Keyword search field.

Hit Search button

and locate

http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/team/viewSe...yFilter=&typeFilter=0

Pick result

e presto

a dopo

Re: Team Challenge Problems

It's "sort of" resolved. Courine says "thank you" but why don't you fix it so we can enter the team name without searching for it.

Re: Team Challenge Problems

Because i think it needs the team code like XF4FD37 before it can go through the invitation routine.

Re: Team Challenge Problems

Hasn't she memorized those team codes?? batting eyelashes

If the search is difficult, she should ask them to put some unique word in their description line, since that search seems to help.

Re: Team Challenge Problems

Ah, but there is no communication between teams. Most are not here in the forums. And for those that are, most don't care to have an public email address showing.

See, the problem with the challenges isn't logistic as much as overall implementation. There was no testing before release. Making it look, to any with half a brain, like a 16 year old that just spent their last cent on a car and then noticing the cost of gas.

This is why I asked the past thread be closed. Not because of a "hissy fit".

I don't doubt that.

Once the UD side goes away, there may be some methods that can change. I wouldn't look for any major rewrite until June at the earliest.

It is also difficult to recruit members for teams, since team threads are the only place allowed to do it. By that time, anyone who would see it is alread in a team.

Many, many not in a team just keep doing their lonely thing, not realizing that there is no penalty for joining a team. One can also jump around as much as desired, a.la. Base Camp.
