New Reg problems

Just signed up and downloaded the agent but something is wrong. When I try to run the agent I get a popup box, but there is no text in either the box or the button. Hitting the button closes the popup but nothing else happens.

Any ideas? BTW, I checked my Locale and it is set to UK English. Tried US but same result.

Cheers

Wayne

Re: New Reg problems

There might be something else running eating up all of the cpu. Do a ctrl-alt-del and go to task manager, then click on the processes tab, then the "CPU" column and see what is listed at the top. I once had a print spooler doing this to me when the printer was not connected.

Also, how much physical memory does your system have? Do you have virtual memory (paging) turned on? Check in Control Panel-> System -> Advanced -> Performance Options.

Re: New Reg problems

I cannot see any error messages and was getting some while trying to register. Tried everything in the troubleshhoting area but none of it worked.

Hopefully they will get this fixed soon.

Re: New Reg problems

Hi Viktors

have 512Mb of Ram in both my machines and have granted another 768 of paging. No processors taking any big amounts of CPU. Performance monitor shown 1% cpu Usage and 5% memory.

I am confident that these machines as well up to spec but there seems to be something amiss in teh install. Would make sense if I could read the text in the pop-ups....

Cheers

Re: New Reg problems

I have tried multiple times to install but still am getting error boxes. Yes boxes.. just a box with a red circle and x through it that says grid agent, or the yellow triangle with ! that says grid agent.

I am running WINXP Pro SP2 AMD 3200 Processor, 1Gb Ram, 120 Gb HD. No processes taking up memory, or processor time.

I used to run the UD Cancer Project without any problems.

Someone please help!!!

Re: New Reg problems

hi wstobbs,

we encountered the same issue on our winXP sp2 machines (german version), too. we started the ud.exe (the grid agent) in windows2000 compatibility mode and it worked fine..

to start an application in compatibility mode, browse to the grid agent installation folder "C:\Programm Files\WorldCommunityGrid", right-click ud.exe and select properties. then switch to "Compatibility" and change the settings for compatibility mode to "windows 2000".

maybe this will help you.

cheers, martin
