Greetings...
I've tried my best to find a solution using your FAQs, forums, and Google, but I'm stumped. I have BOINC installed on a couple dozen clients (mis of Windows and Linux), and they're all working fine so the problem appears limited to my new (to me) Power Intellistation. I've got RHEL 5.1 installed and working fine; networking has been fine; no proxy is in place. The BOINC client (version 5.10.17_11 from http://www.dotsch.de/boinc/BOINC%20Clients.html) will start and run benchmarks, but then crap out trying to access the reference site. I've got BOINC installed in /opt/boinc, with a separate boinc user that owns the dir. I've tried running as the boinc user as well as root. Here's the command I'm using: ./boinc_client -attach_project http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org <my_account_key_inserted_here> Here are the results: 2008-04-17 17:31:18 [---] Starting BOINC client version 5.10.17 for powerpc-unknown-linux-gnu 2008-04-17 17:31:18 [---] log flags: task, file_xfer, sched_ops 2008-04-17 17:31:18 [---] Libraries: libcurl/7.16.1 2008-04-17 17:31:18 [---] Data directory: /opt/boinc 2008-04-17 17:31:18 [---] Processor: 4 CHRP IBM,9111-285 POWER5+ (gs) 2008-04-17 17:31:18 [---] Processor features: 2008-04-17 17:31:18 [---] OS: Linux: 2.6.18-53.el5 2008-04-17 17:31:18 [---] Memory: 7.72 GB physical, 16.00 GB virtual 2008-04-17 17:31:18 [---] Disk: 17.24 GB total, 12.20 GB free 2008-04-17 17:31:18 [---] Local time is UTC -5 hours 2008-04-17 17:31:18 [http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/] URL: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/; Computer ID: not assigned yet; location: (none); project prefs: default 2008-04-17 17:31:18 [---] No general preferences found - using BOINC defaults 2008-04-17 17:31:18 [---] Preferences limit memory usage when active to 3950.19MB 2008-04-17 17:31:18 [---] Preferences limit memory usage when idle to 7110.34MB 2008-04-17 17:31:18 [---] Preferences limit disk usage to 8.62GB 2008-04-17 17:31:18 [---] Running CPU benchmarks 2008-04-17 17:31:23 [http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/] Master file download succeeded 2008-04-17 17:31:28 [http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/] Sending scheduler request: Project initialization 2008-04-17 17:31:28 [http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/] Requesting 1 seconds of new work 2008-04-17 17:31:33 [http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/] Scheduler request failed: unsupported protocol 2008-04-17 17:31:33 [http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/] Deferring communication for 1 min 0 sec 2008-04-17 17:31:33 [http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/] Reason: scheduler request failed 2008-04-17 17:31:49 [---] Benchmark results: 2008-04-17 17:31:49 [---] Number of CPUs: 4 2008-04-17 17:31:49 [---] 1282 floating point MIPS (Whetstone) per CPU 2008-04-17 17:31:49 [---] 3589 integer MIPS (Dhrystone) per CPU 2008-04-17 17:32:34 [http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/] Sending scheduler request: Project initialization 2008-04-17 17:32:34 [http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/] Requesting 1 seconds of new work 2008-04-17 17:32:35 [---] Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site 2008-04-17 17:32:37 [---] Access to reference site succeeded - project servers may be temporarily down. 2008-04-17 17:32:39 [http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/] Scheduler request failed: unsupported protocol 2008-04-17 17:32:39 [http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/] Deferring communication for 1 min 0 sec 2008-04-17 17:32:39 [http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/] Reason: scheduler request failed 2008-04-17 17:33:42 [http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/] Sending scheduler request: Project initialization 2008-04-17 17:33:42 [http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/] Requesting 1 seconds of new work 2008-04-17 17:33:43 [---] Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site 2008-04-17 17:33:46 [---] Access to reference site succeeded - project servers may be temporarily down. I've cleared the firewall to see if that was the problem, to no avail. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm hoping that I've just been buried in the details trying to fix it that I've missed something big and obvious that someone can point out. Thanks in advance. |

Sorry, PPC isn't supported.
(Well, it is for Mac, but not for any other platform.) Sorry. There isn't enough demand. |

Didactylos,
----------------------------------------Aside that the Linux/PPC combo is not support, is this "Scheduler request failed: unsupported protocol" not the same as the PepoS fail of yesterday, i.e. a compile without the SSL parts? http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/printpost?post=161847 Just wondering how many bounce off and not asking why contact fails.

Yes. Kind of moot, though.

Sekerob -
Thanks for the link. My libcurl is indeed compiled with SSL, but I'm still unable to get it working. I also tried copying my account_www.worldcommunitygrid.org.xml from a working Linux x86 box as a last ditch effort, to no avail. It's a shame....this was a decent box that was going to be dedicated to WCG processing. |
