I'm running BOINC on a Debian Etch server (text mode - no X interface). I want to take the server off-line later this week but I want to wrap up the current Work Units before I do. If I go into "My Projects" via the World Community site and de-select every project will this allow the currently active units to complete while not initiating new ones?

You can tell the client directly to 'No New Tasks' in the Projects tab of BOINCmgr.
----------------------------------------don't think a 'no projects' will work/save. Just AC@H and no tick on the 'alternate work' box would do the trick too. There is virtually no work for that project.

Just tried it and the response is: At least one project must be selected

text mode - no X interface Since you run Boinc in text mode you must be familiar with BoincCmd. Then look for the correct syntax to pass the "nomorework" option to the project (the text equivalent of Sekerob's "no new tasks"). I am sorry I have never used BoincCmd myself, so I cannot be more precise. Cheers. Jean. |

Hello fmartin330,
----------------------------------------There is some information about BoincCmd at this link: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/wiki/BoincCmd As JmBoullier mentioned above you have to look for: nomorework: finish current work but don't get more. Good luck, Path7. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Apr 15, 2008 2:15:50 PM] |

I am sorry I have never used BoincCmd myself, so I cannot be more precise. Boinc_cmd is despicably ugly, atrociously verbose and completely unintuitive. It's such garbage that I wrote a (text) front end to it. eg. for this question, I'd do "boinccmd -n". That translates to "boinc_cmd --project http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ nomorework". Kremmen,
----------------------------------------It's because it's verbose enough and not so unintuitive that I could find the right option simply by browsing the module. Since you are a professional I am sure you understand that the official module cannot offer convenient shortcuts for every situation that a Boinc user might need over scores of different DC sites. It has to use a minimum set of parameters and syntax to allow unambiguous parsing of users' commands. Next it's so easy to write your own subset suiting your own needs, as you said... Cheers. Jean. |

Took your advice - "Just AC@H and no tick on the 'alternate work' box would do the trick too."
Seems to be doing the trick - Thanks |

I actually had not seen this page before. It was very helpful. I prefer to avoid "X" and run in text whenever possible. I get more power that way. Thanks for the link.
