AutoDock update

We are in the process of testing an update to the AutoDock program used in both the FightAIDS@Home and Discovering Dengue Drugs Together projects. The updates include changes which enable us to reduce the work unit redundancy down to almost one, thus significantly speeding up all projects that use AutoDock. Additional changes include some updates to AutoDock code to handle certain quaternion computations properly (used for calculating rotations), and to use the new BOINC API in preparation for the upcoming version 6.0 of the BOINC client and maintain backward compatibility to earlier BOINC versions.

To make this transition smooth, we need to run the current work queue nearly dry to avoid problems handling validation of work unit results. However, testing is taking a few days longer than expected, so less FightAIDS@Home and Discovering Dengue Drugs Together work is being processed at this time, until we put the new versions into production.

During normal verification of results by the researchers, the problem with some of the results involving quaternions was discovered. The researchers will resubmit as new work units, any results found to display the problem. Verification of results is a continuous part of the overall process and is geared toward elimination of errors and providing the highest quality results for each project. This is a normal part of the research process and we are glad that this error was discovered. If you (the members) were not helping us perform these massive numbers of different docking calculations, then we probably would not have discovered this error. Thus, the recent experiments still helped Scripps test and improve the tools that scientists use in all of this drug discovery research (and the tools that thousands of labs use in their research against other diseases).

We thank you for your patience through this update. No action is required by the members, but we thought we would let you know what is going on behind the scenes.

Re: AutoDock update

Hello Viktors,

Thank you very much for this update.
Its giving an idea of the hard work the researchers and the techs are doing.
I'm interested in the final results.

Have a good day,
Path7.

Re: AutoDock update

Hello GIBA,
Yes, once the work units pass the Alpha test, they will go into Beta.

Re: AutoDock update

So, how is the progress for the next release with the updated AutoDock...??? When will it be deployed?

Has been concidered, that the run-time of FAAH has significant increased with the new version, and was checked, that this will not happen with the comming release of DDDT?

Re: AutoDock update

Hello totto73,
Work unit length is controlled by a script which creates the work units. The values are adjusted until the average work unit is returned in 8 hours. They started out too short (oops) and now are too long (overshot) but soon they will be just right for Goldilocks and everybody else.

Testing on BOINC 6.1.16 for Windows (32bit).

When opening the graphics, it opens a double window. One with the graphics in them, one which is a command-line style window that's just black with a blinking cursor. Closing either will close both windows.

I'll leave a screen grab behind if necessary, but it'll have to wait until tomorrow when I have installed a graphics editor of sorts.

Re: AutoDock update

Has been doing that, the one falling behind the graphics just being a black frame, since 6.1.14 ALPHA for all that were prepped for BOINC 6, both using AutoDock science releases 6.03 (FAAH) and 6.04 (FA&H&DDDT) on Vista and WXP, 32bit. Does not matter which if the2 is closed, it closes both.

Ha Rob, thanks for that. I didn't search last night, was too angry at stupid BOINC for having to fight with it to even install 6.1.14 and .16 and losing all my work in the process. :-(

So it's an Autodock problem then?
