processing, but no progress

I have a weird situations after nearly 70 days of membership and >30k points. I got a new job over the weekend that processed for 30 hours and showed 0.0% progress. I shut down the agent and restarted again an hour later, and I'm nearly 45 mins along with 0% progress. Sketching the back of the envelop, this looks like 3,000+hrs for this task - I can't imagine that's right.

Any suggestions as to what might be going on?

Thanks!

smile Hi JLieberman

It would appear you have a non convergant Work Unit
To kill it and get a new one follow these instructions:

Right click on the Toolbar at the bottom of the screen and open Task Manager
Go to the Processes page and click on WCGrid_Rosetta.exe
Click on End Process at the bottom of that box
This will kill the program
Go to Start/Programs/World Community Grid
Double click on WorldCommunityGrid Agent and when the program restarts, as long as you are connected to the web, you should receive a new work unit

I hope this helps
Regards

Re: processing, but no progress

Thanks Graham, I did this and have a new task running. The first time was 70 hrs, I killed the agent (not the processes) and started again and went 1.5 hrs. I just killed the processes and have a new job running (I can see the WCGrid_Rosetta.exe using high 90's CPU utilization.

But when I go to the agent information, I see not much happening... Even after 10 mins of processing, I get 0.00 on all 9 items on the information page of the grid (Rosetta, Environment, Pair). Any other ideas?

Are the spikes on the graph progressing at all and does it show any progress at all
Example: 0.1% 0.2% etc
Give it an hour and if it still shows 0.0 then repeat the first proceedure again and let
me know if there is any progress in the next WU that you receive
Regards

sad Re: processing, but no progress

Graham, I can't thank you enough for the assistance here!!

I did the kill process, and shutdown my machine, but fear I'm getting the same work unit again. It's only been a few mins, but the progress is 0.0% (was in the previous 2 'hung jobs' too). crying

Also, I didn't see the agent download data before starting the work unit. I wonder if it's cached somewhere on my machine.... sad

I'll post back in an hour or so with a status. Meanwhile, keep your fingers crossed!

Thanks!
Jerry

Re: processing, but no progress

Well, an hour later and still no difference. 0.0% progress despite 95+% cpu utilization....

I also send an on-line problem report to WCG, and will post when I hear back.

Anyone have any other ideas?

Thanks!

Re: processing, but no progress

Yeah - it's working again!!! dancing

I tried a variation on the excellent instructions from Graham. But rather than 'end process', I right clicked on the tasks, and selected 'end process tree'. I did that for the UD... processes and the WCG... process. When I restarted the agent, it did download data and showed activity on the 'i' (application information) page right away. 6 mins later, I'm at 1.5% progress....

Thanks to all for the help and ideas!

Re: processing, but no progress

I've tried both with nothing working. Where are the files stored? Can I just delete the downloaded file?
