Re: BOINC Install problems

This is by design. The UD software only used half of your computer. That is just one of the many reasons it is being scrapped.

If you only want to contribute half of your computer, simply change your preferences to reflect that.

Re: BOINC Install problems

You don't say when you had your 'crap' experience, but now you can simply set in the website or local prefs to only use 1 processor instead of the default "all but limited to 16 by default" plus it has a throttle these days thatworks best at 50% keeping things nicely cool.

May 31 2008 tentatively, the last UD job goes out the door.

Re: BOINC Install problems

sorry but i won't be using this crap software tryed it once and it started cooking my dual core cpu so no i won't be using i'll stick to the one that works best and has no problems which is the ud one
Perhaps your fan was insufficient. I have an X2 right here with an industrial strength fan. It is 3.2GHz and is even overclocked to 3.45GHz. It's running BOINCs 24/7 ... all day and all night.

nah sorry but i'm trained in pc repair and i know for a fact that when ur fan has to overheat to keep ur cpu cool is overkill oh and btw my fan is 5 times bigger then my cpu and bonic will kill ur cpu it never works to the specs u tell it to use i ran it for 2 days becuz i like the seti stuff too but i will not put my pc at risk for a program that is not pc friendly and theres proberly aload of other people who will agree with me ud is the better agent bonic can't be ran as just a screen saver ether its running all the time which makes ur pc slow as all get out even with a dual core cuz it takes up both cpu's theres no point in using it i will continue with the ud it works better its much faster and it works when u tell it to run as a screen saver now if u still want to disagree with so be it but it is true what i have typed here if u don't like it don't force people to change to crap software that will kill there computers

Re: BOINC Install problems

You know, we cant make everyone happy, particular if statements are made it that it cant do this and cant do that when it can. E.g. BOINC can be told to run when the user is not operating a keyboard or mouse and to run in what UD agent users refer to as the Screensaver mode.... it's dynamic screensaver even has a screen protection feature to go blank after X minutes.... why leave it up and use CPU time when there is no one to watch! It can even be told to stop computing completely and allow your system to go to sleep after you're done with it.

There's is a thread in the Chat Room where contributions are asked how to improve the interface for instance.... share your ideas so things can be made better in for the future releases.

ciao

But apparently not in English. I dread to see your repair receipt.
Ever heard of punctuation? Or plain English, for that matter.

Ah no, let me guess. Like all the rest of the world who can't type on the internet, you're dyslexic and in a hurry, so text messaging is easier.

Skipping over the rest as it's again illegible.

The rest here sounds like those people at Seti, when Classic was closed down.

Do you still solely run Windows 95 on your high speed systems?
No? Why not? I would think it is much faster and easier to use than Windows XP or Vista is.

Answer us that one and you answered yourself. :-)
Just think about it...

It's a 'darn sight fast' because the jobs are sized on purpose for this ancient client and can only run 1 at a time. With BOINC, even if there are 96 processors in a computer, all 96 are used, yet only 1 graphic which is massively more efficient. There is no practical limit though, 96 is just the largest configuration seen to date.

So from my previous post addressed to you:
it's because the 7 year old database this UD agent depends on cannot be upgraded, since the UD maker themselves don't exist anymore! None of the newer sciences will work properly with this artifact unless substantial duplication of effort is invested by the programmers to keep this single core only piece running.
