Re: New Beta Test for HCC on Linux

I know with mine, they didn't look like they would finish for awhile, then the progress/To Completion would occasionally jump towards 100 percent until finished. So they did finish (At least the ones I did), but all acted the same way.

Re: New Beta Test for HCC on Linux

The estimates are always off by a bit for beta workunits.

We have found the problem. The API for BOINC changed. There is a function called boinc_begin_critical_section() and boinc_end_critical_section() that allow you to tell BOINC that you are processing a critical section of code and the application should not be paused or stopped during that section of code (for example, when you are checkpointing). The previously version of the API allowed you to call boinc_begin_critical_section() any number of times and then one call to boinc_end_critical_section() would inform BOINC that you were no longer in a critical section. However, this was changed so that if you call start X times you need to call end X times.

We are testing the new build in development. Once we confirm it looks good we will conduct a new beta test.

thanks,
Kevin

Re: New Beta Test for HCC on Linux

Kevin,

I'm sure they have, but you never know.... does this include that if clients are set to crunch when idle (not in use) or go to sleep power down after X minutes non-use, that the science will be allowed to finish that 'critical' step when time is there to go to sleep or when the computer is being used again?

Re: New Beta Test for HCC on Linux

Hi Kevin,
is there any value in me leaving my 3 failing Beta HCC WU's running (in case you need some logging / core dumps etc) or shall I kill them off ?

Regards,
Sean

Re: New Beta Test for HCC on Linux

Suggest you suspend them till answer is received. If it stops your client from fetching new work, slightly increase the Additional Buffer option in the local prefs to force them over.
