What would it take to update more quickly?

Stats used to be updated 4 times per day. Now only twice and those two times take a looong time. Can/will someone please tell me exactly why it takes so long (i.e. what is necessary to reduce the amount of time the updates take)?

Mostly, we need to remove the UD part of the system.
