I installed BOINC yesterday evening, and have not been able to attach to WCG project. I kept receiving "Project Temporarily Unavailable" since yesterday. I tried again this morning and still received the same error message.
I'm not sure if the server is really not available or if there is something wrong with BOINC. 4/2/2008 7:15:32 AM||Starting BOINC client version 5.10.45 for windows_intelx86 4/2/2008 7:15:32 AM||log flags: task, file_xfer, sched_ops 4/2/2008 7:15:32 AM||Libraries: libcurl/7.18.0 OpenSSL/0.9.8e zlib/1.2.3 4/2/2008 7:15:32 AM||Data directory: C:\Program Files\BOINC 4/2/2008 7:15:33 AM||Processor: 1 GenuineIntel Genuine Intel(R) CPU T1300 @ 1.66GHz [x86 Family 6 Model 14 Stepping 8] 4/2/2008 7:15:33 AM||Processor features: fpu tsc sse sse2 mmx 4/2/2008 7:15:33 AM||OS: Microsoft Windows XP: Professional Edition, Service Pack 2, (05.01.2600.00) 4/2/2008 7:15:33 AM||Memory: 1.99 GB physical, 3.33 GB virtual 4/2/2008 7:15:33 AM||Disk: 55.88 GB total, 19.78 GB free 4/2/2008 7:15:33 AM||Local time is UTC +7 hours 4/2/2008 7:15:33 AM||No general preferences found - using BOINC defaults 4/2/2008 7:15:33 AM||Reading preferences override file 4/2/2008 7:15:33 AM||Preferences limit memory usage when active to 1019.18MB 4/2/2008 7:15:33 AM||Preferences limit memory usage when idle to 1834.52MB 4/2/2008 7:15:33 AM||Preferences limit disk usage to 9.31GB 4/2/2008 7:15:33 AM||This computer is not attached to any projects 4/2/2008 7:15:33 AM||Visit http://boinc.berkeley.edu for instructions 4/2/2008 7:16:33 AM||Fetching configuration file from http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/get_project_config.php 4/2/2008 7:17:44 AM||Fetching configuration file from http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/get_project_config.php 4/2/2008 7:30:59 AM||Fetching configuration file from http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/get_project_config.php 4/2/2008 7:37:38 AM||Fetching configuration file from http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/get_project_config.php 4/2/2008 11:51:07 AM||Fetching configuration file from http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/get_project_config.php |

Do you use a proxy?

I don't use a proxy. Am I suppose to?

No, a proxy is something you may already be using. If you use one, then you need to configure BOINC to use it. If you don't connect to the Internet through a proxy, then it doesn't matter.
I asked because it seems something is stopping BOINC from connecting to the Internet. If not a proxy, then it may well be your firewall or security software. What security software do you use? |

Hi
I'm using Symantec Firewall and Anti-virus. |

The firewall probably popped up a message asking if you want to allow BOINC to access the Internet. I'm guessing you clicked "Deny" by accident.
Open the Symantec Firewall control panel, and change the rule for BOINC to "Allow". |

Hi - problem solved. Thank you so much.
I'm not sure what happened, but Symantec did not show any pop up when I tried to attach to the project. When I checked, Symantec has put "block all" for BOINC. So I changed to "allow all". Thanks again |
