At 79 nothing is easy anymore. On one of my elderly computers I have the UD program - Fighting Aids@home - running along with Boink that was running Seti and Malaria Control. I downloaded Boink 5.10.45 and it apparently added WCG Human Proteome Folding Phase 2 in the WCG-Boink version. I have both the UD and Boink running now. The computer is running 24/7 with nothing else to do. Should I just leave the UD program running until it goes away?

You can go ahead and uninstall the UD agent whenever you want. Running both at the same time isn't a great idea, but it doesn't usually do any harm.
Remember, you can set your project choices here: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/viewMyProjects.do |

Sorry for being so dense. I have about 14 months into FightingAids@home. Will I lose all that work when I uninstall the UD agent?

Curly You will keep all of your points - just use the same username from the UD agent in BOINC when you attach to the project. (If you already installed BOINC and used a different username, you can detach and re-attach with your UD username.) [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Mar 29, 2008 3:57:59 AM] |

I really meant dense! I have a UD WCG project running and also have a WCG-Boink WCG project running. I don't understand how to get the project that is running on the UD program transferred to WCG- Boink program. I seem to be Curly in both WCG projects.

Curly No worries If you are "Curly" in both, then you don't need to worry about the points. Uninstall the UD WCG agent. Your current work unit in the UD agent will be sent to someone else. As for the project, more projects are available on BOINC than UD. I see that you do have a Human Proteome Folding workunit from your post above. You will also get the FightAIDS@Home application sometime too. The WCG techs decide how to distribute all the various WCG projects. Your default profile is set to All Projects. If you'd like to work on specific projects here, go to My Grid --> My Projects. Check or uncheck whatever you'd like, but recommend you also check the "if there is no work available" button on the bottom. Does that help? |

Hi Curly,
----------------------------------------esoteric17 is perfectly right, if you are Curly with UD and Curly with Boinc all is fine. Maybe what confuses you is that what you did with UD is not visible from the Boinc agent. This is normal, UD is UD and Boinc is Boinc, and if you have the UD agent still running it will not take Boinc's work in account either. But your WCG total includes all your work. I mean the total you can see at the top right of WCG pages or in the My Statistics page. Reminder: one Boinc credit gives 7 more WCG points, so your WCG points = your UD points + 7 times your Boinc credits. And to finish with a smile: You once asked "Will I lose all that work when I uninstall the UD agent?". "All that work" has already been saved and passed to the scientists. The worst that you could have lost now is only some of your points. Cheers. Jean. |

Thank You All!
I think the befuddeled old man is back on course. I wasn't worried about points but more about losing work. The obvious answer is to let UD run to the end and die a natural death. I will remove UD at that time. Again thank you for the responses - all very helpful. Curly |

Hello Curly,
That will work. However, two humongous projects running at the same time may fill up memory and run slower than one project only. Lawrence |
