Is it possible to get Boinc to run as a service that runs even when no-one is logged onto the pc? I have one pc running WXP Home with 3 three user accounts and it does not appear to run when no-one is logged in.

Yes. Just chose the option when installing BOINC. It's amazingly simple.

Yes. Just chose the option when installing BOINC. It's amazingly simple. It wasn't for me. Every machine I've tried to do this on gave me error 1920 about 3/4's of the way through. If you hit this error do the following while the error message is still up - don't close it. 1. Go to Start --> Programs --> Administrative tools --> Services 2. click on the "standard" tab at the bottom to get a little more viewing area 3. look for the boinc service - it will be under either b for boinc or w for world community grid. 4. double click on the service 5. click on the "log on" tab 6. check the first radio button for "local system account" 7. click ok 8. go back to the error message and click retry This should allow the installation to finish successfully. There's more info at http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=15931 or you can just google "boinc error 1920" without quotes. good luck. ![]() ![]() |

This means you mistyped the account name when installing, or chose an unsuitable account to run BOINC as.

This means you mistyped the account name when installing, or chose an unsuitable account to run BOINC as. I don't think so since I took whatever the pre-filled default was and I only have one user on all of my machines, aside from any system accounts. But I'm not an expert on Windows security issues. ![]() ![]() |
