My Profile Miscellaneous Statistics shows I have 8 devices installed;
Device Installations 8 Is there anyway to delete/retire any of these? I'm only running one laptop (it's a Lenovo T60p so may count for 2 because of the Core 2 Duo chip). |

This question has been answered a number of times and the current answer is no. It is on a wish list to get changed according to the CA's.

Once the UD finally goes away, perhaps some wishes can get attacked when we are BOINC only. In the meantime, I have 112 devices including previous installations and testing, but only 4 are currently active. There's nothing we can do about old ones yet, if at all.

It's a shame that old machines don't get purged automatically.
If a machine hasn't been heard from in a set time period, if for instance it hasn't downloaded units or uploaded results within a year, then it would get scrubbed auto-magically from the DB. Oh, well - maybe when we're all BOINCing..... |

No.
Runtime is linked to devices. I'm sure you wouldn't like all your old points to be removed when the associated device is deleted....! This is the way BOINC works, too. All devices are kept in the database, forever. |

As Didactylos said old devices must stay in the database for statistical and historical reasons. It is nice to be able to click on Device Installations in your personal stats page and see how much all your past and current devices have contributed to your current status.
----------------------------------------I think that what could make everybody happy would be the addition of an Active Device count everywhere in the stats the current Device count is shown. Maybe in the post-UD era of WCG... Cheers. Jean. |

It's a shame that old machines don't get purged automatically. As others have said, that would make a mess of the stats. Also, some of those machines might come back. I reckon if a room needs to be heated anyhow, it might as well be (at least partially) heated by a computer. I have machines I don't need which I run during winter for WCG and turn off the rest of the year. The main thing I'd like to see is the Device Installation number being correct. Mine says 9 on my main stats page. Click on it and get it to list all devices and the list is 8 entries long. |
