According to the CDC, one out of five (20%) adolescents and adults in the United States have had genital HHV infection (either HHV-1 or HHV-2 in the genital area).
In the united states, one out of four women (25%) and one out of eight men (12.5%) have HHV-2 (genital herpes). Most people do not know they have it. Like the HHV-3 (chicken pox) and HHV-1 (cold sore) virus, the HHV-2 (genital herpes) virus is kept suppressed by the immune system in most of the population. http://www.cdc.gov/std/Herpes/STDFact-Herpes.htm It astounds me how uninformed most people are concerning this disease considering most of us engage in the behavior that spreads it.  |
