Agent not running alert needed?

I have noticed that many people(probably well into the thousands) are no longer returning results. It may be that they don't even know that their agent has stopped running. I'm wondering if its possible to have an alert put in the agent that would pop up on a member's screen if the agent has not run for a week. I realize this may be alot of work to do and it won't help those that have already 'forgotten' about the WCG, but in the future it would help keep those that are busy and haven't noticed that the agent has been shut down, up and active.

Why find interested members just to lose them????

You could also add links to the WCG on the Alert so the "less active" members get a reminder to check in and see whats new.

I hope this is a new idea and you all like it and implement it.

No need for an alert here,

Ripcat --

Just a thought on this -- for the agent to pop up a message to indicate that it isn't running, wouldn't it have to be running to pop the message up? worried

Maybe another way would be to harvest the non-productive users from the database and send them an e-mail telling them they are missed. I believe that this would be permitted under the end user license agreement.

Re: Agent not running alert needed?

If a member has taken the trouble to set up the agent, the chances are very good that they would appreciate being notified by email.

The email could also contain a "Take me off the email advisory list" option as a "legal precaution" and as a courtesy. Besides, since a member voluntarily chose to participate and supply their address, this email can not technically be considered to be unsolicited.

Re: Agent not running alert needed?

Good points guys,

the e-mail alert would be a much better idea except when notifying folks who used a 'spam collection' email address that they never really check.

email me when I fall off the wagon,

Hi guys,

If the recipient CHOSE to quit the effort (the Powers That Be forbid), the "take me off the list" option should also include the right to "officially" take them off any Team they might be on (just so it's more obvious that no more results may be expected from such persons).

On another note: everywhere you look, you see people who joined a team, and then quit it without getting any results in... Such things make Team-lists unnecessarily longer and all they add are Zeros. Such Zero characters should (IMMHO) be DELETED from the Teams. But only if they returned NO results AND already left the team.

Just my $0.02 biggrin

Re: Agent not running alert needed?

I certainly agree with the idea of cleaning up the lists. All those 0's simply don't look good.

Members who WERE active, but suddenly stop transmitting, however, are different from people who joined but never submitted any results.

This software is so buggy, who knows what happened to them? Sure, some members likely gave up. But certainly not all of them.

If an individual bothered to take the time to get set up, don't they deserve the courtesy of a follow-up message? If they gave up, then the message will simply be trashed. No harm, no foul.

Nothing is worse than losing members that have already made an active committment. To lose thousands of them without even trying to salvage those that you can is foolish.

As to "notifying folks who use a 'spam collection' email address," since this is not-for-profit certainly someone can find a .org or .edu extension that could be used. Wouldn't that get around this problem?

I'm just trying to come up with some way to salvage the momentum that many of you have worked hard to achieve. I'd hate to see all that work wasted if it can possibly be avoided.

There's always a solution!

Re: Agent not running alert needed?

Hi guys..

To Spanky:

I appreciate your input, as it clarifies in some detail what would have taken me TOO many words to explain. That's exactly why I suggested people would only be deleted IF they had already chosen to press the leave this team button, without returning any results for the team ;)

To Graham:

I was SURE that you would value these suggestions and do something with them pronto! And here we are: you were perfectly predictable today! Thanks mate!
