Yes, you have to install the software. Download it here: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/reg/ms/viewDownloadBoinc.do?newMember=false

Hello rockley,
Are you checking your results in My Grid - Results Status? What does the Messages tab in BOINC Manager show? What does the Tasks tab in BOINC Manager show? Lawrence |

No, the registration is complete before the download step.

Well the registration looks ok so he must have downloaded boinc or ud to register....if boinc did he attach to a project..... ![]() I've been on WCG for 4 years but brand new to the forums. I don't know where to post this and I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction. Here is my situation; I installed BOINC (v5.10.45) but it just sat there saying it was trying to contact the server (this was in the simple view). I checked back a couple of hours later and it was still trying to contact the server. "Hmmm", I thought. Go figure. I looked at the message log and saw "This computer is not attached to any projects". I went to "Tools, Attach to project.." in the advanced view, attached to WCG and I was off and running. Now for my question: The install instructions say that BOINC should attach to WCG on it's own once you have installed it. I think it would be helpful to include in the installation instructions how to verify you are attached and how to attach if BOINC doesn't do it for you. It would be nice if the simple view told users they weren't attached but let's not go overboard. :o) Anybody know the correct forum or contact I should mention this to? Am I being picky? I just can't help but wonder how many users convert to the new software and give up when it appears that it can't contact the server. Thanks. |

This does seem to happen on rare occasions. I don't know why.
Did BOINC Manager open the "Attach to Project" wizard the first time it ran? To work out what really happened, I think it would be useful to check the entire message log. Go to the folder BOINC installed to, and find the stdoutdae.txt file. Post the contents for us. Thank you. |

Suspicion is that some grab the regular BOINC installer 5.10.45 and not the one that has the WCG prefix which should take care of the attaching. In case off, here is the link to the WCG skinned kit: http://boincdl.ssl.berkeley.edu/dl/wcg_boinc_5.10.45_windows_intelx86.exe
----------------------------------------We really like to know where it fails so the programmers can fix these exceptions. One thing i understood previously is, that one has to be singed in as member in the web-browser for it to recognize the member information, not sure. The condition should have been met if the installer runs directly after the download from WCG completed. Copying it over to another machine and launching the installer maybe breaks that test, particular if cookies are erased. thanks in advance.
