fantastic quad computer

On January 11 I built a quad computer using Intel q6600 microprocessor running at 2.4GHZ. It has reported in 41 times since and has a total of 499 results. One day it had 22 results for it maximum. I also have a duo amd processor which is rated at +4200 but it maximum results for one day is 8. The quad computer is averaging over 12 results a day. In another month it will be my number one in results. So in three months time it will have more results than my single microprocessor computers have had in over 1 year's time. I believe it is living up to its name doing the work of 4 computers. I am hoping that it does not use the electricity of 4 computers. It has a 450 watt power supply. That would compare to the 4 other computers that all have more than a 300 watt power supply. Four time 300 is 1200 watts so I am thinking about building another quad and selling all of my single microprocessors.

Re: fantastic quad computer

Ah another enjoying the speed of quadum computing. Topped 118 in a day with the short FAAH jobs (shorter than DDDT at this moment). Got one in October they'd mis-priced at Saturn.... to good to pass up. Cant OC it but had no plan to do so either, just added water-cooling with extra fan on the block in anticipation of another very long hot summer. My e-bill went 25 Euro per month up compared to the previous P4 running 24/7, but it's 9x more work being delivered.

Read about the "2 by 4" Q9775 yesterday. It's not OCable and needs a special Intel mobo and had 1.6 ghz RAM strips. Salivating drooling

devilish Re: fantastic quad computer

Rick, good news, your q6600 should be pulling alot less than your supply's rated 450 watts. A Kill-A-Watt is a great investment at less than 30 bucks if you are interested in power draws. My q6600 is pulling 260 watts fully loaded with WCG. Keep in mind though, its overclocked to 3.6 ghz.. so pulling more power than yours will at 2.4! If you are willing to wait a little while, the newer 45 nm quad chips should be out soon. The .45's are much more power efficient than the current quads. They are out right now as Xeons.. but it will be a couple weeks before the "normal" desktop chips come out.. but to give you an idea, our team has a member with a dual cpu board (2 quad chips, so 8 cores!) At 2.8ghz, at FULL load, its pulling 233 watts from the wall!
The quads are really the way to go smile

I'm with crooks too.. itching for a true laptop quad.

All this talk has me

I even dreamed about a 16 core the other night that I bought for 121 dollars (hmmm dreams can come true!)

What a good overclock. How you achieve it (cooling method, MB?)
I am really interested, which is your "Avg. Points Per Hour of Run Time" with this computer and can you tell us also yout Avg. points and results/calendar day?

thank you :)

PS: I have an Athlon64 3000+@2850Mhz

Re: fantastic quad computer

My best quad core has topped out at 60 work units in a single day. And that wasn't with any preset to run only fast work units. It actually processes 8 work units at a time. I like have the Dual Xeon Quad Core 2.66 GHz system running. biggrin
