Am currently living away from home, where I connect to the Internet by ISDN. At my temporary address in another city, I connect via wireless broadband - which is much more expensive.
Trouble is, my wireless bill has shot-up and is nearing 3 gb per month. Have just had a bill for $350 for 1 month ! Is the WCG software - BOINC or UD - approved for use on wireless broadband ? |

Hi, Use BOINC only - UD is being phased out in June 2008. Yes it should work with wireless broadband; if you get charged for how much bandwidth you use I suggest you stay away from the very bandwidth-intensive AC@H. DDDT also has a lot of network activity b/c the jobs are very small; FAAH has very small jobs currently but I think they are going to change those soon. For now, I'd stick to HPF2 and HCC (and then back on FAAH once they make the jobs longer). Hope that helps. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Feb 16, 2008 11:44:30 PM] |

Hello Outback Mick,
You may have followed the recent news articles about the unfortunate man who used his wireless phone for data downloads to his laptop. He ended up owing the phone company more than $40,000 after 3 months. I suggest you review the billing for your wireless connection very carefully. You may wish to disable BOINC as a result. It sounds as though your wireless connection is much more expensive than a land line. Lawrence |
