No finished file

I keep getting these messages that says:2/12/2008 2:48:32 PM|World Community Grid|Task faah3059_ZINC00042743_xMut_md19480_00_0 exited with zero status but no 'finished' file

and also this message: 2/12/2008 2:48:32 PM|World Community Grid|If this happens repeatedly you may need to reset the project.

I have reset project several times and its seems to help for awhile then it starts doing that again. It has done it on the last 6 jobs i have had. Im using version 5.4.9 Boinc.

Thanks in advance

Re: No finished file

You have a very old BOINC version. I recommend upgrading.

Re: No finished file

Hello truckpuller,
'exited with a DLL initialization error' indicates that there is something wrong with your system. Better copy the start of your Message tab so we can follow everything up to and past the error for some lines. Normally I suspect graphics problems when I see a DLL error, though there are other possibilities. Could you describe your system to us? When did it stop working correctly? Do you run other BOINC projects, such as Rosetta@home?

Lawrence

Re: No finished file

Im running an Athlon XP 2500+ with 1 gig of memory EVGA 6600GT video card with Windows XP pro.
I have been running WCG only on this computer for the last year or so.

When i updated the Boinc i just downloaded and installed and it replaced the old version i was running. Maybe i should of unistalled the old version of Boinc then installed new version??

I tried posting my all of my messages on here but it wouldnt let me, but this is all that is in the message line.

Re: No finished file

That's the correct way to install BOINC. It shouldn't affect anything.

The updated BOINC is just giving a more informative error message. The problem is the same - DLL initialization. This is difficult to diagnose, but as Lawrence says, it is sometimes linked to the graphics. Do you view the work unit graphics or use the BOINC screensaver?

Re: No finished file

Darn. That just leaves the difficult possibilities. The most likely possibility is you have some problem with your CRT DLLs, and reinstalling Windows is undoubtedly the easiest fix. But I don't want to recommend that!

Is your computer otherwise healthy? Do you ever have noticeable problems with other programs? Did you install a Windows Update around the same time that this problem first manifested?

Re: No finished file

I dont have a CRT on this computer i have a LCD 19" Viewsonic VP930b but have had this LCD screen for about 8 months.

I run spybot search and destroy, Adware SE and AVG at least once a week. I have windows update shut off. I did update my video card drivers but this problem existed before then. I do not run any Anti Virus programs ,like PC-Cellin, norton or anyother as im on dialup and they slow my machine down terribly.

Computer seems to run ok i run 03mark3D and score around 9,000.

Now the last couple jobs that ran and completed since i posted here last seem to have been ok, but then maybe the next couple jobs will error. As was written in first post i was getting message no finished file could it be an upload problem??

Thanks again

Re: No finished file

CRT is the C runtime. Sorry, I slipped some technical stuff in there.

No, this isn't an upload problem. What is happening is that the science application is exiting early, without meeting all the conditions for the task being complete.

This isn't always a fatal error, so usually BOINC can pick up and continue. Seeing more of the messages will confirm this. So long as your tasks are completing successfully, you can ignore this error if it only happens occasionally.
