confused Strange 1st deadlines! Am I priviledged?

Hello!

After some fumbling with the project selection and workbuffer settings I finally got 2 ACH WUs at once.

I found something strange aboout the initial deadlines. Both sets of WUs were distributed within about 2 minutes, but the differences in the deadlines are spread much wider.
Is this normal behaviour? I thought the initial deadlines were the same for all WU within the project (except redistributions).

Bold are mine

As you can see, I am the lucky one who got much more time than the others to finish the WUs. Am I priviledged in some way? Why?

A single WU with this deadline is no problem for my machine, but two will be challenge. wink

Best regards

Thorsten

Re: Strange 1st deadlines! Am I priviledged?

Yes i noticed that before and also saw a post by knreed that he would be extending the deadlines for backup work.

The initial distribution should be 5x24 hours, but these look like initial complete sets only getting 24 hours.

Let me poll him to see what's on.

cheers

Re: Strange 1st deadlines! Am I priviledged?

I also saw that post from knreed.

What I found strange are those initial deadlines posted above:

ach1_19_69: 9 WUs with deadline exactly 24h; only one (mine) with deadline about 30h

ach1_13_49: 7 WUs with deadline exactly 24h; one with 25h, one with 28.5h and one (mine) with about 30h deadline

The question is: Why do not all WUs in the same set get the same deadline (24h if not changed)?
And why do I get the longest deadline in both cases?

Greetings

Thorsten

Re: Strange 1st deadlines! Am I priviledged?

Yes - you are privileged!

As you know we are currently running through 52 weeks of simulations through 82 different parameter variations. You can tell which week and parameter variation if you look at the workunit name. For example, workunit 'ach1_ 13_ 49' is the 49th parameter variation for week 13.

The workunit for ach1_14_49 depends upon the data received from workunit ach1_13_49.

We send the data back to the researchers once a given week has finished completely. For various reasons some of the parameter variations fall behind in terms of which week of the simulation they are on. This delays us in sending the data back to the researchers. As a result, we are automatically marking new workunits for the parameter variations that have fallen behind and high priority. This means that they will only be sent to reliable computers* and thus the workunit will complete more quickly and the parameter variation will start to catch up with the others.

As of yesterday, any new workunits for weeks 20 and less will be marked as high priority. Most of the new workunits being sent out right now are for weeks 21 and 22 and are being sent with the normal rules.

* A reliable computer is one that has a history of returning results that validate correctly and has a average turnaround of less than one day. The deadline for results that are being sent high priority is 20% of the original deadline plus some extra time based upon the estimated time it will take the computer to finish the workunit.

Very interesting! Thanks for your explanation.

thinking So, the reason for my 'privilege' of the latest deadline is, that I have the slowest machine in the quorum? sad

As long as this helps me to get ACH-WUs I am very happy about this.

Just got 4 ACH-WUs at once. That's now a total of 7 WUs this week on this one machine.
biggrin biggrin biggrin

Still need some more to get the ACH badge.
