I'm currently running BOINC on two different PC's, both set to exclusively run work for the Conquer Cancer project.
On my first PC, (A quad 2.3 Ghz PC with 4GB of ram) the program runs without me noticing any weird issues. However, on my two year old laptop (2.0 Ghz Single core, 1 GB memory) i keep getting a massive page fault delta, along with (Logically) a massive amount of page faults. At the moment of writing this, the laptop reports a massive 52.768 page fault delta, and a total of 729kk page faults. I might be a little rusty on memory handling, but this is defiantly something i never saw before. In case someone wonders: The laptop has sufficient free memory to prevent this amount of paging (600MB-ish free physical). Also, the laptop is not being worked on at the time being, and no other programs except for the default Windows XP files are running in the background. I'm not sure what to think of this. Is this just my laptop going old? Is this a client problem? Or is there any other reason this might be happening? Also, my apologies if this has been asked before, but after wading trough the first 25 pages of the forum search result without result i figured it might not have been asked before. Thanks in advance! ~Excirial |

Hi Excirial,
----------------------------------------It is a currently known issue with the Help Conquer Cancer project: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=18269 http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=18124 [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Feb 8, 2008 9:25:26 PM] |

Hi,
----------------------------------------No wading needed, just type in with "page fault" in the search box right top to get all the hits. http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...3&submitbutton=Search Some sciences on some CPU types show this more or less and it's not exclusive to WCG. The HCC is under investigation as it accounts for some to increase run-times by 50 to 100%. The Known Issues forum has a post to confirm the work in progress. sorry.

Thanks to both of your for this incredibly swift response!
I guess its simply waiting then until this problem is solved. Its actually not a serious problem for me, as my laptop isn't a power platform anyway(My PC works flawlessly, and much faster anyway) . It does indeed seem to make work significantly slower though, as im pretty sure my laptop will need at 50% more time to crunch then needed. No wading needed, just type in with "page fault" in the search box right top to get all the hits. http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...3&submitbutton=Search That explains a lot! Personally i used the search link in the top bar to execute my search. It came back with 272 pages and 5438 posts(Searched for Page Fault), which were almost completely unrelevant to my search for page fault. http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...=&forum=0&rows=20 Well, guess thats it then, thanks again for the support! ~Excirial |

Those quotation marks make the difference between 88 or 5439 (now)
