Dear Jean,
----------------------------------------Here are 3 examples of 'advice and consent" From where I advise my crew: OK, I'm wondering how things are going in regards to HCC work units. What we need to find out is what kind of machines crunch this work unit effectively. I believe that cargod is running ok, but a few of us may be slowing way down running HCC. This is OK if you understand this is happening and consent, but if you are not sure and have seen a dip in your points stats since the project began, then please feel free to steer clear until the HCC project has broken in a bit more. The 2 categories of systems that I have seen most at risk: the slower than 1ghz and multi core machines. This doesn’t mean you are at risk of you machine, just that the crunching may seem slower or running inefficiently. This note is not a directive, but an advisory. Many of us can stand the rough waters that DC is known for. For the new member though, a wrong wave can find them overboard. So, like any good ships captain, I’m just alerting you to a stormy sea. I was working on a xmas email, but then noticed that there may be a problem and will be including this post in the email as well. So please, let me know how you are crunching! This is what WCG needs to do, practically: At this point, a full disclose letter to all that crunch at WCG should be considered the minimum, to maintain the now needed civic awareness. Otherwise, stop sending work units until the problems here are resolved. BTW, the reason why I have posted here, in this thread not elsewhere, is I don’t want to start an embarrassment thread that many others would see. Like the "BOINC damaging the environment" thread. So I post it here, to prevent another stain. The reason why the "BOINC damaging the environment" thread is a problem, is it is in it's very name, Libel. It slanders the very program you use. Want to know how that looks? What is worse, its backed by CA's by not moving to remove it. And now, the message itself: Thanks Kneed, The reason why I was watching this thread was really to make sure the focus was not lost. Not to say is had, but to be sure it hadn’t. When I saw the CA's seemingly playing down the impact this problem could have, there needed to be a show of concern. What happens when a problem with the tech end of a project is identified here? You need to disclose the hazard to allow consent of passage. Otherwise any traffic beyond that point by those hit by a problem unknowingly, will challenge their faith. An in the high seas of research, faith may be all you got. This is why there are “small craft’s advisories”. It is to allow public consent. How do I know this? I am a maritime captain as well. I need to see resolution here so I can proceed with the league. A league that would help expand the Team Challenge system and reduce the need for WCG's administration's involvement. Right now I am seeing the end of the bell curve for team involvement in the challenges. I hope that this problem resolves first, before the need for leagues at all, vanishes. Note the effect that the challenges have [had]. This is why I want to offer my skills as a captain once again. As an online military officer, far above the rank you see here. So Captain-to-captain, general-to-general or just soldier-to-soldier: Command has its privilege, but its responsibilities need to be met everyday through selfless devotion to your crew. So, if you look at this closely, what I am asking is what is required by law of all public organizations: "advice and consent" ![]() ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by courine at Feb 7, 2008 8:24:59 AM] |

Dear D,
----------------------------------------Your silence is telling. As at least I answer your questions. Well no matter, another has seen what I have said, making your foolish attempt of sabotage even more obvious. See, guests read my posts and wonder why you are a moderator. Now tell me, how do I get these emails? ![]() ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by courine at Feb 8, 2008 12:20:38 PM] |

When was the last time you spoke to your therapist? You're taunting.
Guests cannot mail you unless you write your addy out in for instance your signature. |

But I haven't written my email addy here, have I?
----------------------------------------Well, I must be a liar. An idiot. A big stupid psychotic mess. Something you like to point to when it comes to me. Isn't that taunting? Let me explain something, this place leaves a trail of bodies in its wake. Many leave and move to a different project, but most just leave DC all together. The reason is that this forum looks like someone’s toy. Why? Here is the clue: Is this a world grid or your grid? I am in 7 other forum online. This is the only forum that connects to anything in the real world. The others are connected to online gaming. In two of them, I am a moderator. In one, I am an assistant admin. But of the eight, this is clearly the most poorly run. It is like whoever is running this show has never seen the light of the Internet day. Realize, I have been targeted from almost the very first day I arrived here. Why? Well how would you take it if someone said to you, “Welcome to WCG, now go home.” ![]() ![]() ![]() |

The part about targeting here is that this whole issue could have been avoided.
----------------------------------------I don’t hide my email addy. D could have merely sent me an email. Once he used the "though well intentioned" phrase, he was also saying I'm an idiot and started this whole affair. Personally, I traded for all on my team by the second day. I just wanted others to share in this. But I didn’t use the forum at first. The others involved are from racing teams here at WCG. Just not teams that use this forum. ![]() ![]() ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by courine at Feb 8, 2008 7:01:37 PM] |

Oh and Lavaflow,
----------------------------------------The "guest" email I get for here, comes through my website. What I find even more interesting is how little email I get from inside the forum. At first I wondered why so few people here have public email addy's. Now I know why. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Courine,
----------------------------------------I really can't understand the frustration you seam to have with WCG and it's community advisors that spend much of their precious time helping people in these forums. All reasonable people expect that with cutting edge research, many problems are to be encountered along the way. Issues WILL happen. When a problem is brought to the attention of WCG, it is delt with in a timely fashion with the resources available to them. All they ask is for us to donate spare computing cycles. Once the issue with HCC was confirmed, WCG advised that there was an issue. It was up to the end user if they want to proceed with that project. The servers worry about where they are going to send the work to maintain a balance. Dont worry about it, let the servers do their job, and let the end users decide what they want to run. Problems WILL happen. **Edited TKH*** Please let us all be respectful of each other. I am locking this thread as we hope that the release yesterday has fixed the HCC issues. Please feel free to start a new thread if additional HCC issues need attention. Thank you all!
