No new work?

I've been running WCG under BOINC for several months now, and usually have 2 or 3 jobs waiting to start, plus the one running. I stopped getting downloads of new jobs a day or two ago, and just finsihed my last job. Trying "update" form the project menu in BOINC produces this:

1/22/2008 11:45:52 AM|World Community Grid|Sending scheduler request: Requested by user
1/22/2008 11:45:52 AM|World Community Grid|Reporting 1 tasks
1/22/2008 11:45:57 AM|World Community Grid|Scheduler RPC succeeded [server version 509]
1/22/2008 11:45:57 AM|World Community Grid|Deferring communication for 1 min 31 sec
1/22/2008 11:45:57 AM|World Community Grid|Reason: requested by project

but no new work. Is there something else I should try?

Re: No new work?

I'm signed up for everything going, including Beta projects (although I haven't seen any of these yet). Should have mentioned that the same machine is running SETI and Climate Prediction, and these are both working normally.

Re: No new work?

Just "reset project" from the BOINC project page, and this seems to have restarted things. I now have 3 new WCG jobs ready to run. However, I have no idea why:
(a) I had to do this, and
(b) it worked.

I should point out that this is a very common situation when it comes to me and computers.

Re: No new work?

You did not post all the messages, but I'm 99.99% sure that WCG had crunching debt or so called Short Term or Long Term Debt over a certain value (there's a secret formula for that). At that time a project (here WCG) stops fetching work until it has paid off its debt until it and has allowed other projects their share of crunching time. With the reset you simply removed the STD/LTD, so it fetches work again. Just let it run and eventually with the added project, BOINC will starts to balance at the frequency and weight you set each project.

Re: No new work?

Interesting. The 3 projects on this machine seem to be getting roughly equal CPU time, and the credits I'm receiving for WCG are actually quite a bit lower than the others - about 100 a day for WCG compared to 150 to 180 a day for each of the other 2. All are set for equal shares of time. If this happens again, I will wait a while to see if WCG comes back by itself.

Re: No new work?

Hi Bill Walker,
I think that it was late 2006 when Sekerob posted a matrix showing how the BOINC projects awarded points. Most were in a clump with the WCG, but a few awarded more points per FLOP.
