Which one would you recommend?
Both overclocks to about the same clock speed, except that the Celeron have half the cache. I was wondering if PS3Grid project performance will be affected by cache size or not. And if they do, by how much?? My goal is to build a low end machine now, so I will be able to donate it to third world country later this year. |

Celeron processors perform poorly due to the size of the L2 cache.
Also, PS3Grid only runs on the Playstation 3 console. Folding@home has other agents for CPUs, but that's a project entirely separate from WCG. |

Hello chungenhung,
http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/celeron-e1200_2.html http://www.hothardware.com/articles/Intel_Pentium_E2140_Dual_Core_Processor/ The Celeron E1200 is a Pentium E2140 with only half (512KB) the L2 cache. Both are Core 2 Duo processors. Since L2 cache is very important for Intel processors (which depend on the FSB) the Pentium is worth the additional cost. [In my unhumble opinion.] Lawrence |

Avoid the celeron at all costs. It is no match for a C2D, or eveb a P4 for that matter.

if you want to crunch cancer, don't even think about the Celeron. The run time is insane with this chip.

My goal is to build a low end machine now, so I will be able to donate it to third world country later this year. I replaced a nearly 2 year old single core 3 Ghz Celeron with a ($49) dual core 2.8Ghz (NOT core 2 duo) and got 70% more results in the same amount of time. With much of the cache on the Celeron disabled, it's a 'cripplechip'. It may be a little cheaper, but unless you're a very light user, the regular CPU will be enough faster to justify the cost, even if just in energy savings per data bit processed. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
