I have 3 machines running boing under linux, 2 of them are behind a firewall.
Those two machines don't show their correct names but just numbers, probably because the firewall, this is causing alot of problems! first of all, they got both assigned two random profiles (one got default the other work) and i am unable to change them! i wanted to reassign them both to one profile, but there is a bug on the website that prevents me from doing so: when i try to change their profile i get an error stating that the device has no name. This is very annoying, could you please tell me how to fix this behavior? thanks |

If you are right, then this is a bug in the website code. (Sekerob, can you duplicate this?)
There is a workaround available if you need it; otherwise, you can wait until the techs investigate the bug. |

Ah, you refer to me hiding the Domain name and IP for WCG, it assuming the device number assigned by WCG.... yes i can replicate and think this was identified quite a while back.

Thanks Sekerob.
I've changed my mind about the workaround. It's undocumented, and is unlikely to be supported in the future. If you need a quick fix, directly edit global_prefs.xml instead. |

It is in the data directory. Check the top of the BOINC log file for the location.

Not sure its the global_prefs.xml holding the device name. Can see it in the client_state.xml, but you'd have to stop the core client before editing. The name would get transmitted to the server on next contact.

Thanks for reporting the bug. I just finished fixing this in our development environment and it will be released in about a week.

The bug fix goes into production today, January 29, 2008. Devices with a Pure Numeric Name can now change and save their associated profile.
