I don't run my broadband modem continuously, so BOINC pops up a message complaining that it can't communicate, though it keeps on crunching OK. When I resume my connection, the message persists, even though BOINC successfully clears the backlog of up- and downloads. It is necessary to manually click "OK" or close the message window to get rid of it and access the normal BOINC window.
This may be a deliberate "feature" of BOINC, but I feel that it is misleading when BOINC has resumed communications. (BOINC 5.10.30 & previous, Win-32). The message also mentions that I have not defined a default connection, but the Advanced >> Options >> Connections tab in BOINC lists only "Dial-up and VPN settings", not broadband connections, so I am unable to set a default connection. Also confusing. (Win 2k SP4). |

If there are times of the day when your connection is always up why not specify them in the "Network Usage" of the Preferences (also in the Advanced pop-up menu.
----------------------------------------And next, in the Activity pop-up menu, you will select "Network Activity according to preferences" (all options and menu names re-translated from French; please bear with it ).Otherwise you will have to tell Boinc when you have activated the network or when you have stopped it, also from the Acrtvity pop-up menu. Cheers. Jean. |

We are well aware of the crappyness of that particular feature. Sadly, a proper fix is a long way off.
Meanwhile, JmBoullier has suggested some excellent workarounds. |
