I have BOINC on many systems on our LAN, with management permission.
----------------------------------------But several users who don't understand computers very well just shut off anything they don't understand. Is there a way to disable the system tray icon for boinc manager?     |

If the core client is installed as a service, then closing the manager from the tray should have no effect on the core client. To stop the client when running as a service, you have to do one of the following:
1. use Task Manager, and choose End Process 2. issue net stop boinc from a command entry 3. issue boinccmd --quit from a command entry 4. use Control Panel, Services, stop the boinc service If you want to hide the Manager icon, click on Start, All Programs, and check Startup to see if BOINC Manager is listed as a shortcut there. If so, just delete it and the Manager icon should not show up in Systray on Windows start. You can start the Manager manually if needed for attaching to projects or other management features. In the future when installing as a service, when you get to the screen where you can choose the options of running the screensaver and starting BOINC when Windows starts, uncheck the start BOINC box as that only refers to the Manager. |
