Tropical dengue fever may threaten U.S.: report
Jan 8th, 2008 Reuters .... Cases of the sometimes deadly mosquito-borne disease have been reported in Texas and this may be the beginning of a new trend, said Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and his senior scientific adviser, Dr. David Morens. A warming climate and less-than-stellar efforts to control mosquitoes could accelerate its spread northwards, they cautioned. "Widespread appearance of dengue in the continental United States is a real possibility," they wrote in a commentary in the Journal of the American Medical Association. ..... Jack |

Hi everybody,
The news is quite alarming. Global warming surely would expand the fly zone of Aedes mosquitos. I am from Indonesia where dengue occurs each year. It's really a big problem. I've been doing protein research to develop dengue diagnostic tools (anybody wants to collaborate?). I came across this community when searching for dengue literatures (I am interested to start a dengue drug project using our biodiversity resources). And, yes, I (and my husband :D) joined this group immediately. Thank you for having this grid. Best regards, Vanny Narita |
