I just upgraded from a version 3 something to BOINC client 5.10.30, and I'm confused.
It was my intention to run *only* one instance of the FightAIDS@Home project and nothing else. When I open my new BOINC client and look at the Projects tab, just the World Community Grid project is listed once, but Work Done and Average Work are zero and Status is blank. Why are they zero? However, when I look at the Tasks tab, there are 4(!) instances of the WCG application/FightAIDS@Home listed, two of them with "Running" status, two with "Ready to start" status. And when I run the mouse over the tray icon, the pop-up bubble shows two WCG's listed with their percentages. Shouldn't there only be one instance running? I tried aborting one of the two running tasks, but another one just starts up so that two are still running, two are ready. Is this how it's supposed to work? I do *not* have a dual core processor, I have a P4 2.8GHz Intel processor. And I just want to run one instance of FightAIDS@Home. Any ideas what, if anything, is wrong? Thanks! |

Your processor supports hyperthreading, which is a technology that makes it look like two processors, for a small speed advantage.
You can limit BOINC to one processor here: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/v...iguration.do?name=Default Click custom, then change the maximum CPUs to 1. Save. BOINC will use the new settings when it next communicates with the server. |
