laptop closed: Boinc goes off. and: How much power does BOINC use?

when I close my laptop, BOINC agent stops. so the entire computer goes stand by when i close it? and can I set it so, that it will still do something, or is this impossible?

another question:
How much more power does it take to run BOINC than if you run nothing?
is it significantly much? because I have to decide if i will let BOINC run while on battery.

If you are seeking to overheat your laptop, disable the laptop shut-down protection features in the BIOS. Running it on battery is not recommended either. It will suck it empty in a matter of an hour and please do not put it in a transport bag while doing this. That will shorten life very rapidly.

You can: Right click desktop. Properties. Screen saver. Power. And from there you can adjust what happens when you close the lid, etc.

BOINC will cause your CPU to run all cores at 100% (unless you choose for it to be less). Therefore it will cause a huge amount of energy drain; do not run it on battery.

Overheat means that it's heating up to high temperatures and may exceed the thermal max for your laptop.

Can I ask what kind of laptop you have and the processor on it? Then I can give you more details.

shock
BOINC is supposed to shut down when you unplug and switch to battery power. Do NOT change this default behavior unless you know all about laptops and their batteries. Some knowledgeable computer experts will run their laptops while on a short commute, but it is dangerous since any distraction can fully discharge the battery just when the computer is needed.

I have a MAcbook. but I'll rather not do it. don't want to risk it to break. nevermind. i'll just leave it like this. i got 4 normal computers, so it wouldn't change that much.
