Re: when is BOINC active?

is that boinc science: wcg_hcc1_img_5.15_windows_intelx86?
because that one, and "non active systemprocessings"(or something) are using alle the cpu. but that windows_intelx doesn't sound like boinc program. so i dont get it. what process is that boinc science? i dont see it. i have 2 boinc processes: boinc.exe and boincmgr.exe. they're both 0%

Re: when is BOINC active?

All the (BOINC) sciences for WCG start with 'wcg_' and those get the "spare" time. They are normally reported in the task manager under the 'idle cycle' process. If you need 60% for gaming, BOINC will use the remaining 40%. If you set "do not work when in use" all those "spare" cycles will go to waste.

Re: when is BOINC active?

Hello chriskrazz,

wcg_hcc1_img_5.15_windows_intelx86 is the HCC (Help Conquer Cancer) program. wcg means World Community Grid. windows means it is compiled for the Windows OS. intelx86 is redundant for Windows right now, but there have been Mac PPC projects.

Since it runs at lowest priority, all your other programs run ahead of it. The only way it can slow down your computer is by filling up memory. So - - how much memory do you have? How many threads of BOINC do you run simultaneously?

Re: when is BOINC active?

ok. thanks. then it works. I run only 1 thread at the same time. I didnt know it was possible to have more. that takes more Ram right? i have 4.2 GB hard disk left and boinc takes 12.3 mb. will it become more and more, or will it be deleted after every project?

I think it sais i have 747600 kb RAM. wcg uses 38000 kb.
it keeps going up. now its 42000kb. if this goes on like this, i wont have anything left. im only on 5%.
if i say it can only have a maximum of 30% of the RAm. what will happen? will it be able to do things? will it just write certain information on the hard disk?

Re: when is BOINC active?

and how come, it doesn't always use the cpu to the fullest? it jumps from 92 to 32% all the time. (and in between) so it doesnt always use 100%

Re: when is BOINC active?

It sounds like you still have the CPU set to 60%. Follow the link I gave earlier: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/v...iguration.do?name=Default and set it to Maximum Output or select custom and push CPU up to 100%.

Re: when is BOINC active?

No i set it to 100%.
I now have WCG installed and running on 4 computers. they're all running on 99%, except for this one. this one jumps from very low to very high all the time. i dont know what it is. but apparently its a problem of my own computer.

Re: when is BOINC active?

Hello chriskrazz,
Check Advanced - Local Preference in BOINC. It sounds as though BOINC on that computer is applying a throttle rather than using your General Preferences. THis should show up at the start in the Message Log.
