I was Just Wondering When WCG is going to change there point structure to be more inline with other boinc projects your low credit 7 WCG Point = 1 cobblestone Will Not be an encouragement for more people from other projects to join WCG

The UD client is irrelevant now, so what we actually have is BOINC cobblestones multiplied by 7. WCG haven't yet taken a decision on the future.
WCG BOINC credits are in line with the other major BOINC projects. |

whatever is going on WCG gives substantially less credit than seti or einstein
i did a test with resources all set to 100% where i ran each of those 3 projects for 1 month a peice on my network. the average daily credit results were about as follows: seti: 2900+ einstein: 2700+ wcg: 1050 (used my calculator because i was in disbelief) so wcg generates atleast half as much credit as those two projects (and probably many others) i guess it is "the cause" that really matters tho .... merry xmas |

Those projects and a few more give credit way over the benchmark. At one point it was proposed at last BOINC Conference for everyone to adapt to the highest in the field. Well the highest in the field gives up to 3.5 times the benchmark/cobblestone rule per my own testing.... I'll not share my opinion on that.
----------------------------------------WCG actually deviates from standard and: - Gives average on quorum 2 and not the lowest claim (except with outliers/lowliers, where it could even work out to be the highest claim being credited)! - Gives half credit on invalid work where others give same as an 'error' job.... Nothing. For computing the hourly claim per BOINC standard, take the benchmark values, add them up and divide by 480. Plus or Minus a few percent, that's what you see on the claim side at WCG. Seasons Greeting too.

The real question is...
Do the points really matter that much??? I thought we were all here to crunch for cures. ![]() |

![]() we do all crunch for the cure but we could attract some more people if the points were more in line with seti per hour |

I think that it was shortly after the 2006 BOINC convention that Sekerob posted an array showing points awarded by each BOINC project. WCG was in the pack close to the middle. But a few projects were deviating from the suggested standard. We are larger than most other BOINC projects so we should stick to the recommended points. (IMHO)

![]() we do all crunch for the cure but we could attract some more people if the points were more in line with seti per hour anybody that crunches a SETI@home (for me) is an ****! first and mainly 'cause we already are thinking about speeding out communications, and taking them to laser beam comms! secondly, not all superior nations & superior people are good to the inferiors...so if the natural law here is like that, it's apsurd to think that the aliens won't be hostile - which many people think they are! thirdly, SETI@home hasn't polluted any result so far...probaly never will! forthly, there are some other better & down to earth projects that they should participate...so all those who are smarter participate in them! **Edited for intolerance**TKH** ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by TKH at Dec 19, 2007 1:41:42 PM] |
