smile Second network computer

I've just bought a secondhand IBM Pentuim 4 Netvista I would like to set it up this week on Linux Kubuntu 7.10 with BOINC running 24/7/365. Would there be any problems running WCG for that length of time?

My other system on the network would have a screen to check on the progress.

Re: Second network computer

Hi Antony,

Not at all, but do set a monitor to check on the CPU temps to make sure that your system ventilation is able to respond to any increases. It can take from 30 minutes to several hours before the full stable operating temperature is reached. If ventilator noise is not an issue, set their speed to keep the ambient lower. E.g. the regular on 1 box is about 58C, but have tweaked Speedfan (for windows) up some extra revs, so it runs at 55C 24/365

Let us know if there are other concerns. Many tweakers here that can help you along the way.

cheers

Re: Second network computer

Thanks for your message, I've installed the second computer today, had a set back to plans, it has 256mb of ram so KDE in Kubuntu would not load, so I'm using it as a windows xp box with Boinc.

OK done some legwork and found Kubuntu 6.6 has a low resource version so installed that on the IBM Netvista, now with two linux boxes I'm more happy.
